Originally called the Cleveland Bluebirds, the team played in League Park until moving permanently to Cleveland Stadium in 1946.

Cleveland Monsters (AHL)

The Cleveland Monsters are a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) based in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The team began to play in 2007 as the Lake Erie Monsters and since 2015 has served as the top affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Cleveland Monsters History:

The Monsters are Cleveland’s second AHL franchise after the Cleveland Barons, who played from 2001 until 2006. The Monsters replaced the Barons in Cleveland following the NHL’s decision to suspend operations of the former Ohio-based NHL franchise, the Columbus Blue Jackets, for one season due to financial difficulties.

The Barons were Cleveland’s third AHL team after the Cleveland Falcons (1929–1937) and Cleveland Knights (1966–1982).
