6 European Cities With A Rich Cultural Background You Should Visit

Europe is unlike anywhere else in the world. No continent has had as much of an impact on modern history as Europe. Some of the world’s strongest and most historically significant empires were born there, from the British Empire to the French Empire, and even the Russian Empire.

As you would expect from a place that conquered the world for millennia, European countries have distinct and rich cultures. If you are planning a visit there, then this post will tell you about six of the most interesting cities (that have the most unique cultures).

Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is one of Spain’s most interesting cities. It without a doubt has one of the most unique cultures, due mainly to the city’s fascinating history (and all of the various cultures and civilisations that have passed through it). However, Barcelona is a very large city, and therefore, not somewhere you can see in a day or even a week. It’s somewhere you’ll need to stay for a few weeks or even months in order to truly get a feel for it.

You can browse rentals in Barcelona online. Renting an apartment for the duration of your stay could work out to be cheaper than getting a hotel. Hotels in Barcelona can be very expensive since the city’s immensely popular with tourists. Renting an apartment also means you have somewhere private to stay.

London, England

London is England’s capital city. It is a city that has, without a shadow of a doubt, influenced modern history more than any other European city. Some of the inventions most relevant to the modern day came from there. If you are somebody who has never visited London, then the first thing you need to know is that the city is extremely expensive.

Even locals struggle to support themselves there. One of the best ways to see London without breaking the bank is to stay in a town or city on the city’s outskirts, like St. Albans or Watford, and travel each day by train.

Belgrade, Serbia

Belgrade is Serbia’s capital. Something a lot of people do not know about Belgrade is that it is one of Europe’s oldest cities. It has been consistently inhabited for thousands of years. In terms of contributions to Europe, Belgrade, and Serbia, have made many.

Belgrade is an affordable and fun city to travel in, with a lot to see and do. The city’s night scene is perhaps the best. Live music, great restaurants, and fantastic bars abound the city’s winding streets. Be sure to check out some of the city’s historical sites, too. Belgrade Fort is one of the most interesting spots to visit.

Glasgow, Scotland

Glasgow can be found in Scotland. A distinction should be drawn between England and Scotland. While they are both in the United Kingdom, they were independent countries for much of history, with their own unique cultures.

The Scottish are very passionate about their history, and rightfully so. You can take a train up to Scotland from London and arrive in less than a day. Unlike England, Scotland is a very affordable place to travel. Hotel rooms aren’t going to cost you an arm and a leg. Wales and Ireland are also good places to visit.

Marseille, France

A lot of people’s first instinct when travelling to France is to go and see Paris, the nation’s capital. However, while Paris is certainly a unique city, it has nothing on Marseille. Marseille’s culture has been shaped by the people who have settled there over the last thousand years. It is an incredible city, with fantastic food.

Various documentaries have been created exclusively on the subject of the city’s food. In recent years, crime has been a problem there, but as long as you stay in more tourist areas, it is not something you really need to worry about.

Rome, Italy

Rome was once the capital of the Roman Empire.  It is where the Vatican City is based, home to the Catholic Church, the world’s largest religion. There is nowhere in Europe quite like Rome. As far as history goes, it has more monuments and sites than anywhere else.

Much of the Roman architecture that remains in the city is intact, with little damage. Because of this, visiting there can be a lot of fun, especially for history buffs. As with everywhere else in Italy, the city’s culinary scene is great, and there is a lot to do besides visiting historical sites.

Europe is a lot of fun. No matter which country you visit, there will be somewhere fascinating for you to go to. The cities listed here are by far the continent’s most interesting though. Give them some thought if you plan on visiting Europe on vacation this year.
