Work is Stealing Your Time

Your job is stealing your time, you should be aware of this.

Imagine you go to work for 40 years (25-65), work 40 hours a week and have 2 weeks vacation / year. That’s a total of 50 work weeks a year or 2000 over 40 years. If you work 40 hours a week that’s 80,000 hours you’ll spend at work over the next 40 years. 80,000 hours is a total of 3333.33 days. What’s even more astonishing is the fact that 3333.33 days is 9.13 years. Over an average 40 year working career, the average person will spend 9.13 of those years  or ~25% of their waking hours, at work. Remember, these numbers DO NOT incorporate commuting times, when you add those in many people spend much more than 25% of their prime years working.

You spend ridiculous amounts of time in order to earn money, don’t waste it and if you hate your job, change it. There are lots of entry level travel jobs to start. If you work for yourself, don’t blow it. You can often get away working much less but much smarter if you work for yourself.

What is beyond me is how people can trade such a massive portion of their lives and still be behind the 8-ball!? It’s a sad state of affairs really. That said, there are those lucky individuals who do what they love. In that case you get paid to do what you love for a 1/4 of your adult life, not a bad deal, yes?

Now that you know, work accordingly.
