Something out of Nothing in Bangkok
Good day ladies and gents,
I sit here, in the lobby of my fine guest house having awoken from a brief nap. I’m so relaxed I can just fall asleep anywhere, anytime to the sounds of pulsating house music and awaken to an even sicker track, I am truly quite content.
What to say except Bangkok is a city very dear to me, the longer I spend here, the more I long to spend more time here. Sadly I am just a “visitor” a “tourist” if you will, although I prefer the term traveler as I never go on tours and don’t care to see any of the sights. I merely wish to live, experience different cultures and build my character while packing my memory full with foreign delights.
For a mere ~$25-$40US a day, you can truly live like a gloriously glorified glutton, eating fine foods and ingesting egregious quantities of delicious beverages, no sugar added, might I add. All the while extending a splendid smile and a swagger in one’s step.
Today was much like another day, same same but different if you will. I wanted a cheap ride in a tuk tuk and I got just that. At the first stop I perused a plethora of suits. Now when I buy a suit I will ask them to burn some fabric, if I smell plastic of any sort, no dice.
I walked out of the suit shop and my tuk tuk driver had gone MIA, much too my chagrin.
I got in another and said “it’s your lucky day, sir” he quipped “why?” I said, you are going to take me on a tour of Bangkok and in exchange, I will stop in every d@mn suit shop and tourist shop you get paid commission, we will smoke marlboros and laugh like lunatics fresh from the loony bin. With a smile on his face, he enthusiastically agreed and the journey began.
Obviously, as fate would have it, my camera was dead and the other battery was charging at my guest house, oh well or “c’est la vie” as the French would stoically say.
We toured, we laughed, we smoked and we joked. Now I am fresh from a small slumber in my fine guest houses lounge. I sit here with a $0.66 mango shake that tantalizes my taste buds and cools my core. After Indonesia, Bangkok isn’t that hot anymore. Last night, I even turned my fan off as it was making me cold and I was cool to begin with.
These new antibiotics are totally MERCKING my knee infection and I’m smiling with a grin that extends from South America to South Africa, a large smile indeed. Hat tip to “Nurse Lindsay” as I have rediscovered my love for pro biotic yogurt, delicious.
. I was going to change guest houses but the vibe here is great, I love it. Furthermore most “amenities” I scoff at now as vanity, the question is why? To be happier with less is quite a brilliant existence. It also builds character, something that can never be lost in a crash.
I am burning a travel video as we speak, I was on a leisurely jaunt to buy a massive portion of pork from a street vendor in an alley off the side of Khao San when I came across a plethora of insect protein and eat it, with great vigor and zeal. For some reason typing zeal as whet my appetite for some veal.
I digress.
Today was truly something out of nothing and turned out to be a fun day. This is the type of thing that happens on the regular when you travel alone with no agenda and an open mind.
Cordially yours,
