Lounging, Haircut and Cheap Dentists
I’m lounging and doing not much more besides assisting in the odd sewer cleaning. If I didn’t vow to update this blog daily, there would be no update today. I have met many other bloggers and they all update once they leave a city so basically compress countless stories into one somewhat boring summary, yawn. I tell them I update everyday and they say “that sounds like a lot of work”, ehhh … not really.
Had dinner with a couple from California, then showed them Khao San Road. At midnight I was ready for bed but for some reason wasn’t tired. Went to the 7/11 for some cheese and ham and met some Canadians, we hung out. I was on my way home when I ran into Joe the tuk tuk driver. I chilled with him and his extended crew for about an hour.
Before I got there, there were people eating bugs from a street vendor, I told them how I eat a scorpion when I was here my first time. While I’m hanging with the tuk tuk drivers, they walk by with guess who? Those girls from Holland I met a few days earlier. It’s really nuts how if you have an outgoing personality, you meet so many people that after even a short stay of a few days, you already have friends to join up with, do whatever. Also, you may see someone 1000X times on your travels but until you “meet them” they don’t stand out and are just strangers. The more people you meet, the smaller the world becomes.
They are going for a drink, I join them. I just drank a shake as my knee is still not totally healed and it’s getting on my nerves. Not to mention whenever I taste beer, my stomach feels horrible from the amox and alcohol mix, not so fun.
I digress.
Turns out the guys are from Montreal which is right next to Ottawa, in case you have no clue.
Now here I am at some vegan restaurant so I can use their wifi, I tried getting a coffee they said there is a min order, haha so I just had some vegan lasagna, it was alright would of been better with some dead cow in it though.
These vegan restaurants have a weird vibe, I’ve never seen so many people wearing burlap, it’s alarming. You know what, I kinda like tofu, when is someone going to make like a tofu BBQ bar and grill and totally change the image of people who don’t eat meat… Put that thought in your next sandwich.
I was walking on a side street near Khao San Road and there is a dentist, they do full teeth cleaning and polishing for only 700b or ~$23US. It costs ~$150CDN back home. I had my teeth cleaned in Panama once for $10US and guess what? It was the best job I ever had. She did it with care and took her time. In Canada, they are booked so tight that they push you through like live stock getting branded or something. You leave with bloody gums and a grimace. When I left in Panama, it was with a shiny new smile.
I’m starting to think of business opportunities, aka stuff I can ship home and resell to the Canadian / US consumer. I’m not sure if Thailand is the place. Then again it might be. Lots of hippy gear but I’m not a hippy so I don’t know what they like or want. Furthermore, hippies are typically broke so forget that idea.
Got a haircut yesterday, the lady told me she thought it was a “good idea” as my current style “looks terrible”. I thanked her and asked if she treated all her customers to such positive, constructive criticism. We then played the “guess my age game”, she looked 30 but I guessed 42 just to give her a taste of what she’s putting down, she was in shock.
Suffice to say, my $3US haircut that I bought from a place recommended by Joe was what I’d consider a success. It’s crazy how a simple thing like shaving and getting a haircut can make you feel like a new person, sorta.
My friend from Finland is going to be here in a bit, we’re always lagged because we stay as long as our visas will allow and then bounce. If I’m going to Chang Mai, Laos & Cambodia, looks like an overnight train on the 14th is when it is going down.
Tips hat,
P.S: This is the coolest, not necessarily the safest, but coolest taxi I have seen in Bangkok.
