How Does CBDA Work and What is CBDA?

Cannabis cannabinoids such as CBDA are among the 110+ cannabis cannabinoids that you will find in the cannabis plant. It is the precursor of CBD and can be converted to CBDA under the right conditions.

The cannabinoids family is intertwined. Cannabinoid production begins when an enzyme causes olivetolic acid and geranyl pyrophosphate to combine and create CBGA. Four separate synthase enzymes can convert CBG to THCA or CBDA, and CBG is then converted to CBCA. CBGA, the precursor of all cannabinoids in the family, is often called the other cannabinoid. Cannabinoids such as THC and CBD are most commonly found in cannabis plants. These cannabinoids, however, are almost always in their acid form in their initial state.

They are also known as THCA, CBDA, “THC acid,” or “cannabidiol acids.” Heat causes a chemical reaction. The cannabinoids transform into THC or CBD when they are heated.

This is the process where raw cannabinoids such as CBDA are transformed into CBD. It’s called “decarboxylation” or “activation”. This can happen when CBDA is heated or slowly over time.

How does CBD differ from CBDA?

Both heated and raw cannabinoids interact differently with different enzymes and receptors in the body. While CBDA, a raw form of cannabinoids, is less active in the brain, it is still active in the body, particularly the gut. They become more accessible to the endocannabinoid systems when they are heated. THC in its active or “heated” version is what binds to cannabinoid receptors. This makes users feel “high.”

Like CBDA, most cannabinoids interact directly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors. However, CBDA indirectly interacts with the endocannabinoid systems similarly to CBD but in its unique way! CBDA and CBDA both can support emotional balance, healthy energy levels, and managing daily stress.

Where can you purchase CBDA?

You now know all about CBDA’s unique properties. Where can you find it? Many people use raw cannabis juicing to obtain their CBDA, as it is found in hemp extracts. This raw cannabis smoothie recipe is perfect for summertime sipping. Raw cannabis isn’t the only way to get CBDA.

CannaAid‘s Hemp Compleat blends contain raw and heated hemp extracts. This means you get nearly equal CBDA and CBDA for every serving of our Complete or Complete Concentrated CBD oils. This blend can also be enjoyed in soft gel form with our Complete Cannabis Soft Gels.
