Flying to Cancun, Mexico

Mexico_flag-3

Greetings,

Today we’re going to talk about my recent trip to Mexico. Seriously, it was the definition of short but sweet. Oddly enough, I had never been to Mexico before which is seriously an anomaly considering Mexico is usually the first, if not one of the first countries most people from Canada usually visit. It’s close, totally geared towards tourism, very affordable, delicious and of course beyond beautiful. Either way, it took me ~60-70 other countries before ever making my way there and my first experience started in Cancun.

If someone told me that when I flew to Cancun, Mexico for the first time, it would be from Managua, Nicaragua I’d call them crazy. That said, it’s crazy how life works out and the gent who grew up in the capital of Canada now uses the capital of Nicaragua as his key airport to access the world. Before we get to Cancun, I’ll mention that Mexico City basically goes on forever. When you’re flying over it, it’s like flying over no other city in the world that I’ve experienced; it’s so massive, expansive and looks like there are several “downtown cores” with parks and such in-between.

I digress.

So I flew to Mexico and was off to an all-inclusive in Playa del Carmen. I know several digital types who love Playa del Carmen and call it home in the winter or year round. I arrived late in Cancun and took a transfer to a hotel which sort of blew my mind; especially coming from months on Little Corn Island.  As a child, when traveling with my parents we often went to them when going south; when I was dating now my ex-girlfriend in Ottawa, we went to all-inclusive resorts and we loved them. Since I started traveling independently, the idea never crossed my mind.

I was there for a conference being held by Visit Britain to talk about my recent trip to Scotland; random I know. This video will show you the trip from Managua to Cancun and what my hotel room was like. Stay tuned in the coming days for more videos from Mexico and although this was a short trip, I’m eager to return to Mexico and seriously dive into their culinary culture as I do believe it’s one of the best in the world and I’ve tried a few…

In closing, big thanks to Visit Britain for inviting me to be a speaker at a conference they were holding, had a great time.
