Shark Bay, Koh Tao, Thailand is Paradise

Good day,

That’s “Shark Bay” in Koh Tao, Thailand which is still my favorite island in the world to date. The island is only ~7kmx6km or something of that nature. It has out of this world beaches, great nightlife and incredibly hospitable residents. When I look at it again, all I can think of is “that’s paradise”.

Not that I’m the “overly romantic type” but if one were to ask a lady to marry them, this seems like a most appropriate place, yes?

If you go to the islands in the gulf of Thailand, I recommend you visit this bay as it’s, well, “super chill”.

Tips hat,

  1. Hello my fello Canadian!

I guess you have left Chiang Mai- if you ever go back, there’s a great restaurant on Tapae road, it’s called Taste from Heaven, and they donate part of their proceeds to an elephant camp. They have the best pumpkin curry! I ate there 3 meals in a row it was so good!! Take care, safe travels!

  2. Hey!!

I’m still in Chiang Mai and will look into that restaurant as my usual places are becoming “stale”, so to speak. I like the donation part as well and have heard lots about the elephants. Supposedly a sweet place that is a reserve, not some beat and pet type place.

    Safe travels!

  3. Fucking love Koh Toa! Fell into a bit of bucket hole though and had to get out of dodge

    • I can relate good sir, naturally. Great place though. More I’m gone more I think fondly of Victoria to be frank.

  4. Hey, If you’re still in Chiang Mai, there’s a hotel called the Chiang Mai Thai House (they have a website) right off Tapae road, in a great location, the rooms are perfect and the price too(I paid $25/night for an a/c room & bf). And they also have a nice pool.
Also, have you tried the food at the used book store? I dont know the name but as you enter Tapae gate, make a left and it’s a couple stores down that road.
There’s a vegetarian lunch buffet at Khun Churn (4 Nimmanhemin 17)- its really cheap (98 baht) and the food is awesome.
I love it there, as you can see, I have done my share of exploring! I’ll be back in December, cant wait! take care

  5. Indeed and I shall look back into it. Also in the “This and That” it’s near Zoe’s and Yellow, great veg food. Also like the traditional Burmese dishes at Thai Freedom House.

  6. Shark Bay (Thian Og in Thai) is one of the nicest spots of Koh Tao – good beach and you can do a bit of snorkeling checking out the reef sharks there.
However it used to be easy to get down there, but some upmarket developer has come in and built a resort, so the old pathway (from Chalok Ban Khao) is blocked. You now need to drive up over the mountain near Jamakiri to reach the beach. It’s a bit treacherous, but on the other hand, keeps the beach nice an peaceful and unspoilt.
Look like this video was shot from New Heaven or OK 2 Bungalows at the end of Chalok Ban Khao – also very nice
