Yesterday I was lucky enough to have the chance to play Le Grand Vallon Golf Course in Mont St-Anne, Quebec. It’s located roughly 45 minutes away from Quebec City which kinda blew my mind, how lucky are the people of this region to have mountains like this so close to the city? The proximity to untamed nature is next level but enough of that, let’s discuss a glorious round of golf…

For starters, think this is the hardest course I’ve ever played. It’s possible there are harder courses but I definitely can’t remember one right now. I met up with the Assistant Professional Jeff and next thing you know, we were playing from the black. The black is way at the back aka the others options aren’t hard enough already so we’ll add an extra 20-50 yards each hole just for the fun of it…

When I say the course is hard, I mean it. How is it hard? Well for starters the slope is kinda crazy and it’s everywhere, not just on the greens. Even on the fairway, you’ll often be faced with shots above or below you and each one has its own tricks to playing. Let’s not even discuss the rough that lines the fairways, not sure what type of grass it is but it’s hard to hit that ball out with any type of authority. Besides what I’ve mentioned, it also has its fair share of water, bunkers, fescue and all those wonderful things that make golfers utter four letter words besides golf…

On the 9th hole we met up with the starter Will and the three of us had a genuinely great time. Or at least I did but they seemed to be enjoying themselves as well. All green fees come with access to the practice range and a cart, also here’s a tip for you… If you go after 2pm the price drops drastically so keep that in mind if you’re in the region and looking to live a little “golf life” while on vacation.

After a great round of golf, I enjoyed a large Stella on my favorite hole, the 19th. I’d definitely like to play that course again sometime and it was one of the first full rounds I’ve ever played from the black. Miraculously I parred the first hole and then it was back to “bogey life” for this gentleman.

Thanks to Quebec City Tourism for their hospitality, I had a great time and would love to return.
