Closing Another Little Corn Chapter

Ladies and Gentlemen,

All I can see is a mess, a room that should have been swept a month ago and random now proven useless items sitting covered in dust exactly where they landed 95 days ago or so. Just writing that number makes me wonder what I’ve been up to and where exactly time goes? It’s the end of another chapter which is always a little low when it’s been a good one but the start of a new one which usually lifts the spirits.

It’s funny how it doesn’t matter where you’re at, if you stay somewhere for over a few days you just spread out. That small backpack which did contain your life possessions are now scattered everywhere as far as the eye can see. The room was small but you’re sure if it was bigger, you’d find a way to fill it with junk; similar to how most people usually carry a full pack irrespective of its size.

Looks like when you’re out to sea, the weather keeps changing. The plan is to get to Managua on the early flight and join a new friend in Granada for a day. Supposedly they have this spa which is really good and really cheap; afterwards it’s a fine time for a filet mignon or start the process of getting portly and order the porterhouse. After spending more than a quarter of the year wandering around barefoot and taking cold showers, perhaps this would be a solid way to re release yourself into the world, so to speak?

I’ve done a great job of not playing the “I’m leaving game” which usually robs people of their last 10-15% of their trip. The now is overshadowed by the inevitable and even the sunniest of vacation days still have dark clouds and cold winds. I’ll note thou that when I woke up this morning before five with that hue of first light, I realized something. It doesn’t matter how long your “trip” is, it always come to an end at some point and the future soon feels like yesterday.

I have no idea when I’ll be back to this playground. The plan is next winter but I’m desperately behind on my non-existent schedule to see the world. At the end of the day, I don’t think you can settle somewhere saying it’s for you until you’ve seen it all. Imagine committing to your favorite ice-cream for life and a week later finding one that makes you feel like you’ve never tasted the stuff before?

Thanks for the good times Little Corn Island and look forward to our inevitable reunion.

This summer has planned stops in Texas, Vermont, NYC, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria before flying somewhere fresh.
