Vondelpark and Living in Amsterdam
Greetings and good day to you,
Would you believe someone who writes this blog will have been in Amsterdam 2 weeks tomorrow, huh!? It feels like one continuous day, one you don’t want to end and until you leave, most likely won’t. We will discuss random garbage, Vondelpark, living in Amsterdam and such.Considering you can do whatever the $!#$ you want around here and it attracts a special type of person, it’s unique.
I can’t think of anywhere I’ve been where you can live a similar lifestyle to here. Also all considering, it’s not that expensive to live here either if you rented a flat, especially if you shared a 2-3 bedroom. For those of you with portable skills and a “I want to try something new” they are hiring all over here. Anyways.
Haven’t thought of the eurorail global pass or anything like that. I do remember what I did that other day,I have a tone of photos, went to this park near downtown. On sunny day’s it’s crowded, can only imagine it in the peak of summer. I need to be in this place in France by the 31st. Think I’m going to Paris tomorrow.
Went into this pub and sat down. The night before I had walked in and basically just hung out at this street corner where you can get a sick view forever of people just being people, Red Light District style. I hung out with this bartender lady forever. Not in a hitting on type way as in a “hey, I have nothing to do, this is a sick location, you’re nice and the pints are cheap”. She is like “Ok, I’m cool with that as I get paid to hang out here in a place that I loath and chatting with you is mildly better than cleaning the toilets.” A perfect arrangement.
So yeah, go back into that bar the next day and run into these straight edge guys from Virginia who I convinced had to lighten up, so to speak. At that exact moment and chatting with a very lack luster barmaid, the type you’re like “listen, you hate your life, I understand that. Why are you in the close proximity service industry?!”
Out of nowhere, I run into Croatian lady, just walking by. From now Croatian girl, lady sounds old, doesn’t it? She says she’ll come back. Caught up with her how I type this or use most social media, short 140 character teretz like outbursts are common. Turns out she remembered me and it was that lady I was hanging out with ~ week or so ago in some coffee shop. At this point the guys from Virgina are totally out of it and say they are going to wander around with a large smile, wish them well and some more friendly distant acquaintances you’ll probably never see again.
We went to a few bars, I got lost at an ATM machine. Amsterdam like anywhere is a fun place but when you go from hanging out with a fun attractive lady to suddenly getting lots on way back from ATM where you’re freezing and thinking “WTF!~?, where am I!?” Then you find it because you aren’t going to just go to some coffee shop and give up, then again many of you probably would / have in the past, weak, weak. Suffice to say, ended up at some hardcore concert, it wasn’t so bad, interesting experience. I think I’ve said it before but more women in North America SHOULD start wearing leggings, just throwing it out there.
The dude at that golfing biker bar gave me the PGA schedule, going to roll over there in a few hours. I’m not ready to leave this awesome place but know it’s time. If I never “got a move on” I’d of stayed in Bangkok last 7 months eating omelets and drinking Chang, which isn’t so bad but kinda lame none the less.
This update is vague and brief as there is much I’d like to say but I won’t as this is the internet and YOU probably wouldn’t appreciate most of it anyways, however many most certainly would.
Ok one quick thing, there is this guy who works at the mushroom store who looks like the guy from the Movie Blow who can’t feel his face. Just like that guy and they only sell truffles which supposedly if you eat a whopping 16.5 grams you have “mushroom like effects”. Suffice to say no truffles were consumed. Anyways the conversation I had with that guy was the most hilarious one of my life and turns out he was pretty cool.
If you were flying to Asia from North America through Europe, I’d recommend stopping in Amsterdam for 3-4 days then Asia, that would be memorable. Then fly to somewhere in Asia and spend 1 night in the city or immediately bounce to some beach destination. Then, if one wishes to get truly outrageous, one could stop here again on the way home, just saying… Also, if you went really hard here your first night, maybe 2 days here would be enough, seriously.
Tips hat,
P.S: I have a 58L pack. My goal is to be a guy traveling with a light gym bag which ironically looks like the bag my dad suggested I take from home before I even left. If the bag gets lost, who cares as the contents will never be much.
P.P.S: 2 pairs of shoes got stolen from the hostel. I was actually relieved and I could forget about them, forever. Poor purchases can haunt you, market or party losses are easier to forget. Truth be told, they were stolen OR I just forgot to pick them up and someone was like, sweet. Either way same thing.
P.P.P.S: There is this British lady who is hot or cold regarding you chilling in the hotel area(not your hotel) hogging space with your laptop. If one is in a bad mood and place is filling but you’re hogging a 4 person area, do something like buy 3.80 pint instead of a 2.20 coffee and leave a 5, suddenly you sitting there is all good again, you may even be getting called “dear”.
Weirdo of the day:
Alpha Bum: Check his crazy eye. FYI when I refer to how many of you probably look at women on the subway or other smelly form of public transport, that’s the look I’m talking about. He just finished an oversized watermelon he found in a bin. I will write about him one day. I grabbed a seat to be like, I need to see this, get a beer. Suddenly, gone. Moments later a very anti-social outburst and back in the game.
