SHABL is Going to Tanzania, Africa

Greetings,

A direction has been chosen, it’s towards Africa, Tanzania to be exact. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you know I have a friend who lives there. He’s a pilot and a good friend / ex housemate from University. When SHABL was at it’s craziest in 1999-2003, this gentleman was most certainly part of most egregious evenings. In fact I started golfing with this gent on usual 6AM “beats calling it a night” trips.

He’s getting married around Xmas and we’ll be there in full effect, naturally. Now that a time and place has been decided, it is time to slowly migrate there. Thinking of doing India then going straight to Tanzania or jumping from there to another part of Africa and working my way in. Had I came earlier he was going to take me on an aerial safari, now that it’s a wedding,  doubt that will happen.

Africa is exciting as it’s a “road less traveled” to some extent. Asia, Australia, Europe and North America are great but most certainly not Africa. If you’ve been to Africa I’d love to hear where you’ve been. Same goes for India. For some reason India is somewhere that many say is “incredible” but have never had a strong urge to go. If I am going in that direction, do believe it would be a shame not to “see what’s happening” so to speak.

The decision is how much longer to stay in Thailand. Decisions, decision.

While in Africa I have one plan, that is to go bungee jumping at the highest point in the world. It’s somewhere in South Africa and that is all I know. I know a few people there and will see if they are up for it. Never been bungee jumping, been saving myself for the “biggest drop possible” in true “go big or go home fashion”. It’s from a bridge and it’s 216M.

Was going to go home for Xmas, doesn’t look like it’s happening now, in fact it’s not. Shame really. That said, I am working on a “spending Xmas in many far off lands”. Spent 2005 in Panama, 2009 in Indonesia and looks like 2010 in Tanzania, indeed. In a perfect world I’d be home for Thanks Giving, the only holiday I truly get excited about, Halloween is cash too. On that note, spent last New Years sleeping in a train station in Indonesia due to horrible planning, looking forward to an “African New Years”.

On a side note, been looking into a portable occupation. Working on websites is fun but when you’re not working you have nothing to do, it gets boring and isolating when away from home. I’m a very social creature which is why I so often go out and get “egregious” when on these trips. This could be a great way to get connected to the local scenes wherever I am and meet some very interesting characters. I have thought a few times of going from “Zero to Hero” aka nothing to dive instructor and Zanzibar has been top of my list.

My friend also mentioned something about climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Looks like the next leg of this journey is slowly taking shape.

I’m excited about traveling again, I like this.

Tips hat,

PS: Yesterday was a record day, over 100+ returning visitors. Thank you.
