Perplexed About Travel in Zanzibar

Greetings,

Yours truly is perplexed.

Looks like it’s Monday already, still here. Found the receipt for my laptop, not sure how to proceed. Will note that Toshiba customer care so far has been lackluster and they don’t make it evident on their site, shame. To make matters lamer, my iphone sends me erroneous messages such as “can’t activate cell network”, huh? I mean, I know what it means but have no clue what it really means, I do get the bars!?

Tomorrow at 8AM there is a ferry leaving to Pangani, possibly stay a night then off to Tanga and Arusha before Moshi and into Kenya. Part feels I should see more beaches in Zanzibar but, whatever. Maybe I will go to stone town next.

I’ve also concluded that on well traveled trails, going solo is arguably the way to go, unless of course you’re madly in love with someone and want to test your relationship or grow it into something beautiful. (LOL). That being said, places like this are a bit different. It’s low season, very few other randoms around. Also…

Drinking, when you go drinking you always meet fun people. Lately haven’t been into the bar scene whatsoever and let me tell you, straight up, it totally changes your trip. A lot of people who travel solo long term and never drink, it must be so hopelessly boring. Not talking getting drunk here, just going out and seeing what’s up on the scene.

Say in Asia, you roll into town, hit the bar with some mates or meet mates at the bar, next day you’re walking around the beach and there are people you know, blah, you chill. It kinda rolls on like that…. SE Asia is like a little travel void, perhaps parts of C/S. America are like this? Most of the world isn’t, can’t imagine traveling through say Canada.

Mentioning this as for some reason, felt like a beer today. Rolled into the beach area and it was dead, like tumble weed and tears dead. So I walked around, checked a few other places, equally dead so drank nothing and am typing this.

Not thrilled about this laptop, not at all. Need to do some number crunching here… If a mac book costs $1200+ and I already spent $750 on a Toshiba, why not get back to BKK on the cheap and be like hey, I want to exercise my warranty rights. Ironically, when this trip started my only real plan was to live in Bangkok for a bit and do some work. When I say work, I mean buy something that can make cash, I don’t build stuff, I’m not a handy man, that’s for sure.

Another thing about meeting randoms, it’s cool but after a while, you see people doing all the same experiences you’ve already done countless times until you’re red in the nose, so to speak. Saturday there were people going out, got to the club and looked around, immediately wanted nothing to do with it. You look at someone who is 1 month into their trip and picture yourself, and think wow we’d of gotten along well but I’m 17 months in. Most possible outcomes of a “night out” have been had, rinse, repeat style.

Started thinking of something, imagine living with say 4-5 people in a cool city in a big crib, say Berlin. Everyone who lives their does web work and works on their own projects. If you have an issue in say wordpress, just ask Victoria or say Ryan. If someone has a question about marketing technique X, just ask someone else. Could see productivity SOAR, indeed.

Just been realizing lately that traveling is getting boring, I said it. There is not much I really care to see right now, at all.  Not quite as boring as listening to morning talk radio while waiting in a frozen drive thru for some java though. Life is about moving forward, the hard part is identifying which direction is forward.

While swimming in the ocean today, had a vision of being in Panama or anywhere in Central America. Believe could be wasting time in places I’d never want to live. You can join a country club on the coast with a deserted golf course for like $10K. Even if you were only there 3-4 months a year…

I digress.

We’ll see if I catch that ferry tomorrow. Also can fully relate to why local people say they want to get out of dodge. Part of enjoying a quiet island is the change, if you don’t have the power to change your circumstances, the grass will always be greener. When the power dies here and there isn’t many tourists, there is nothing going on, at all. One could say oh it’s so peaceful, yeah it is, if you have no pulse.

Yeah, that about sums up where I’m at, perplexed.

Tips hat,

P.S: We trust search engines for so much of our copy written assignments in school. When googling “perplexed” the image below came up. Supposedly they are perplexed witches from Brisbane… Thanks Google!
