Wandering About in Varna, Bulgaria

Greetings from a cloudy Varna,

How do you do? Despite little sleep and a cloudy demeanor today, decided to go and venture forth in to the unknown streets of Varna to see what was happening, or as they say in Wales, “what’s occurring”. Found a lively place much like many other places on this planet with a pleasant feel and interesting characters abound.

Having one of those, “Wow, I’m in Bulgaria!?” like moments.

Finally found that hostel today, wow… Turns out I walked right through the epicenter of “Tranny Pickpocket Land”. That’s the only part of town to watch out for, I did see some tranoriffic like characters on the way in but they didn’t bother me, nor me them. Every city has its issues, kinda laughed when I heard about this cities. That said, be weary of pickpockets near the main drags.

I digress.

Anyways at about 1PM rolled down and the gent was drawing out that map of “things to do”, it was a snooze fest. Second largest cathedral in Bulgaria, some old museum with an old gold something, a graffiti wall and roman baths! Luckily, yours truly cares not for landmarks but the specimens of life that frequent such said landmarks and the city as a whole, mus say, Varna is quite sick so far… Let me explain.

It’s the kinda place where you see lot’s of old Mercedes, BMW and Audi’s driving around. You see women that look Caucasian but with Asian bodies!? You see women from glamor magazines strutting down the street with a leash attached to a rottie, need I continue?

I enjoyed the trip with a gent from the US who just got here from Romania. He got the short end of a stick from a pick pocket and didn’t feel safe. He did give me some good info though, he’s in the town I wanted to visit on my up to fulfill a lifetime dream which is visit the Ukraine. Met some ladies from the Ukraine today briefly while he was waiting to change money, must visit the Ukraine. Also ran into a nice lady from Croatia who joined us to check out the graffiti wall, it’s commissioned by the city but very lack luster, you’d be better off checking the subway cars in Rome.

Apart from all that, food is very cheap, beer is very cheap, the beach in Varna which is along the Black Sea is quite decent and the place just has a foreign but fun feel to it. Probably send a few days here max, maybe even less before moving on. You see there is not a whole lot to do here from my estimation and I’m sure there are better beaches for one like myself to frequent. I’d like to get really dark this year, call it what you will, it’s on my things to do list.

Will note, you realize how incredible the water in Turkey was.

Need to dig deep to find some great local meals here.

Tips hat,

P.S: This seems like the kind of place that could grow on you…
