How to Get Exercise on Vacation

Vacations are a time for decadence and fun, but that doesn’t mean we can let ourselves go overboard!  Many of us work hard year-round to get the body that we want, yet with vacations, we all walk a thin line between overindulgence and wanting to show off.  Instead of falling completely off the wagon, or denying yourself the food you love, take the time to add a workout to your daily routine.

Here are some workout ideas that will help counterbalance the extra calories you’ll gain while enjoying your vacation!

Use Your Location

If you’re traveling away from home, there will be a terrain you can use to work out.  In the mountains you can take morning rock climbing lessons, if you’re on a beach, you can practice resistance running through the sand.  Cities are great because you can test yourself to see how far you can go without hailing a taxi.

These are free resources that you can use to work out while enjoying the view of your vacation destination.

Hotel Room Workouts

There are unlimited ways you can work out in a hotel room.  The only wrong thing you can do is not go into working out with a plan.  If you’re working on building your upper chest, look at tutorials for what will benefit you.  You can make use of everything from doorways, to chairs and tables, and put the whole hotel room to use.  This option means you can work out at the beginning or end of each day, and spend the rest of your vacation hours enjoying your freedom.

Look For Free Sample Gym Weeks

This choice might not work everywhere you go, and it’s important to note that signing up for free sample weeks might get you trapped into calls and emails trying to woo you into staying with the gym.  Most gyms, especially chains, offer three days to a week free for anyone wanting to try out the service.  This availability is useful because it allows you to have a place to work out for the weekend without having to pay for a gym.  If you already have a gym membership at home, check if that gym has a local branch.

Workout With Fun

You’re on vacation; there are endless ways to have fun and work out simultaneously.  You can swim in the ocean for a couple of hours, or intensely dance at local bars or clubs.  These are both very effective workouts that are also fun and rewarding.

Going to work out through scuba diving and swimming will make you want to dump your old gym and stop looking for Albany houses for sale to move to the Bahamas instead.

The essential part of a vacation is that you have fun with it.  You can still enjoy sugary alcoholic drinks and wild calorie-dense foods without giving up all of the hard work you’ve poured into your body.  Make sure that going home means you bring good memories and a great beach bod with you.
