First Class on American Airlines Boeing 777-300

Good day,

I’m writing this from my hotel in grey old England after taking what was without a doubt one of my most pleasant adventures in aviation to date. As it happens, I found myself flying first class American Airlines from Miami to London; indeed! The flight takes 8 hours and is most certainly a red-eye. That said, flying first class was a delight and this may sound extreme but it was one of the most pleasant “Saturday Nights Out” that I’ve had in quite some time.

I flew on a Boeing 777-300 which is a beast of a plane and first class occupies exactly 8 seats. It’s basically just like business only more plush and added room. It’s for people who want the very best and are willing to pay for it; flying first class can’t really be compared to flying coach as I was basically in my own “command center” with everything I’d ever need and a flight attendant to passenger ratio of 25%; not bad?

A good friend of mine “The Goat” routinely flies first. He has always told me that first class with American Airlines on a trans-Atlantic flight is what it’s all about; he was right. The seats had more positions than you could imagine and the the Bose headphones were a nice touch. It didn’t even feel like I was traveling really; I was just comfy. I’m not sure how much I slept but I do know that when the breakfast arrived in the morning I was shocked that we were 90 minutes from Heathrow.

A highlight was most certainly the 5 course meal with dessert I enjoyed which took up the first 2-3 hours of the trip. The meal began with bacon wrapped date and apricot which was quite nice, might I add. Seared tuna with wasabi is arguably one of my favorite dishes on the planet so I chose that as my starter before trying the sweet potato with red curry. A wise gent next to me said it looks good but he never orders the soup as he’s learned his lesson and it normally ends up on your lap; I sampled it slowly and took heeded his sage wisdom.

I’ll mention that one point; I just looked at the guy next to me and proclaimed “I’m elated”.

Back to dinner, yes? The next course was a salad consisting of seasonal greens and other good stuff. Finally we had a choice of 4 entrees and I opted for the rosemary garlic shrimp as I’m not messing around when I say that seafood is my style. The meal was delicious and I enjoyed two healthy glasses of Chardonnay from Kenneth Volk Vineyards. The entire meal was an experience and it’s a completely different world. I’ve flown business before which was great but first is well, first.

I’m in London for two days and I have lots to do; if you ever get the chance to fly first; take it. It’s another world…

Tips hat,
