Ella To Mirissa Beach, Sri Lanka

Hello from Mirissa Beach, Sri Lanka,

Hired a private mini-van from Ella to Mirissa, they want 9,500R. Reality, they did it for 7,500R and we had 7 people so it was only 1,100 each. This is a steal considering getting to Mirissa from Ella in 1 day is, well, almost impossible and would cost you ~3-500 on buses driven by men with death wishes who wish to take as many innocent lives with them when they drive off the side of a cliff. I am talking the driver drove off the road a few times as a bus will be passing another with no way possible to get in before meeting us. Size matters is an understatement around these parts.

The driver was cool and reliable despite the bumper falling off only moments after leaving. The ride was pleasant through the mountains. Sri Lanka really has some incredible scenery. It’s odd this place is rarely mentioned in travel publications. Hopefully these updates will give you an idea of what this place has to offer.

Mirissa is a nice place, not a lot going on though and you are sorta stuck eating at the hotel as well, not a lot going on. Luckily found an internet cafe to make this update. This is a popular beach though and during high season which is just sorta starting to begin, could see this place being packed. The beach is quite nice, could rival many others I have seen around the world.

The waves here are very large but not surfing. The main point is called “The Graveyard” and has reef and rock… I’ve only gone surfing in Bali, therefore it would be akin to a guy who has gone skiing a few times taking a black diamond run. Disaster typically ensues. Considering this place has no ATM machine, I doubt their medical facilities are stellar if they even have some.

Tonight, I will stuff my face with calamari, lobster, prawns and whatever else once lived happily in the ocean. It will find its way into my stomach filled with incredibly spicy curries. The food here in Sri Lanka is delicious. I will note that this beach is super coupley… Like almost everyone is a couple and all these old people in speedo’s holding hand. It kinda ruins the otherwise beautiful and tranquil surroundings.

Tips hat,

P.S: Eurail contest ends soon, needed 1500 entries which I assumed would be a breeze over 3 months considering the traffic this blog gets. We are nowhere near, shame really as Europe isn’t where I want to be this summer.
