Chiang Mai, 2nd Best City in the World?!

Good day,

Don’t mind me as I smile and stroll around my room wearing a sweater vest with a swagger while swigging on a cold glass of club soda and enjoying a smoke. What I am about to tell you is no joke, about a place near impossible to go broke.

That has nothing to do with Chiang Mai by the way but I’m just in a pretty good mood, let us say that, shall we? So back to the main point of this here bloggery. Supposedly according to “Travel and Leisure”, Chiang Mai was voted the 2nd best city in the world to live, indeed?

First off I’m a skeptic. Who voted? How many people voted? Who reads this website? What is the demographic of the people who voted? Anyways I am also suspicious as Bangkok came in #1. Now that my skepticism is out of the way yeah, supposedly it is.

Back to more skepticism, shall we?  I contacted a newspaper about writing a story for free. They said they have a big backlog but if I want to I have to write about (insert popular locations from N. America here) as it’s vacation season soon and those are the only ones getting published. Ever wonder why so many places get so much coverage? NOW YOU KNOW.

FYI if somewhere is “paradise” in a newspaper, it’s not unspoiled paradise, ok?

Back to Chiang Mai, shall we? It’s cheap as all h3ll, quite safe as the only “violent crime” I have ever heard of here was a lady having her purse snagged. It’s also quite clean with lots of culture, amazing dining options, great wilderness near by, a long history and tones of golf courses. Supposedly per capita it has more “foreign owned restaurants” than anywhere else. I heard some old dude saying that so it may be total sh!te.

This link here is the official results. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. For the most part travelers and people going about their lives don’t read travel blogs, nope, not at all. Therefor I thank you for taking the time to read this most informative and at times ridiculous blog.

I make this point to stress that I don’t trust these results but they are results no less so… So that is most certainly that. I don’t trust the results in many elections but someone still gets to take the thrown, right?

Then again, maybe it is the 2nd best city in the world to live? I know countless people who came here for a month and never left. It also ranges all ages. Remember I paid $208.xxUS last month for rent, A/c, internet, water, utils… EVERYTHING. I’m also not living in some dump. There are plenty of Mercedes and BMW’s in the parking lot and it has a great location.

All that said, if you wanted to save serious coin, I’m sure you could live here on a fraction of that as most who live and work here don’t earn much at all a month. Not sure why you’d want to but hey, some people like that kinda thing, I think!? If that’s your style and you’d like to live here, this Chiang Mai city guide should get you going.

Enough of this potentially ludicrous survey.

Back to swinging my cane around and using it for gregarious yet at times nefarious purposes.

Yes, that is what I shall do.

Tips hat,

P.S: It’s the weekend, go nuts or eat some nuts or lay in the sack with a bottle of jack. That or jump in your car in a pair of slacks and get a Big Mac, whatever.
