Roadside Black Bear Outside Stewart, BC

Good day,

The other day we were leaving Stewart, British Columbia after checking out the Salmon Glacier and we ran into a black bear. The black bear was doing its thing along the side of the highway aka eating grass. Supposedly there are countless in the area but so far we’ve only seen near 10, surprising isn’t it?! We’ve been running into this family from Holland the last few hotels and they’ve seen something like two dozen. That’s wildlife though and like all else in life, timing is everything.

This was the largest black bear I’ve seen. Below is Stewart, the mountains surrounding the city cut the clouds.

I’m here with the Explore BC Project, to learn more visit the Tourism BC Facebook Page and look up #ExploreBC on Twitter.

Tips hat,

Woah, those buildings! So old school and what a backdrop those mountains are. So now we’ve seen you floating by a bear, driving by a bear – next video better be of you playing with a bear.

Hopefully we can film that segment soon but I am a bit apprehensive about the whole idea…

    Dear Rob.

We have seen a few more since we last saw you at Smithers. Today we have seen 2 black bears at the Icefield Parkway and yesterday a mom and her young one at Jasper.

It was timing meeting you both as well.

Al the best from two out of six from Holland. The young one’s from the bear excursion at Kutzemateen.

I immediately knew who you were when I saw the comment! It was super cool meeting you and the rest of your family at many stops, it was fun times.

We are in Barkerville and have not seen another bear, our GPS sent us down these crazy logging roads but still nothing, it’s all timing my friends!

It was great meeting you and stay in touch. Wish you both and the other 4 of you the very best and safe travels.
