Back From Bluefields & Catching First Kingfish

Greetings,

This is a bit late so I better spray it out here on the internet graffiti style before it is forgotten forever. Things got crazy in Bluefields and I had some of the biggest aka most serious aka no joke business tasks I’ve had yet in a foreign land. Everything was smooth like silk until I realized I had forgotten something / overlooked and was up at 3am punching pillows, pulling hair and wallowing in my own stupidity all to find out everything was alright. Once again, the breeze filled my sails and off to sea it was once more with a smile.

Bluefields is as how I remembered it just not quite as seedy. That said I rolled in with a full on castaway beard and hair so uncontrolled it could best be described as weird. Throw in the occasional shoulder bite / ocd extremities check and people tend to leave you alone, serious. Get your teeth cleaned, a shave and haircut and whack jobs come out of the woodwork begging for money, so much begging it gets old so fast.

Didn’t pick up any shrimps but did grab a gallon of oysters for $5. The shrimps you want if dried are red, that’s first class, anything brownish is what is best described as garbagio. It was pretty cool getting everything done for under $12, that’s teeth, shave & haircut. It was also slick having food options again, so many to choose from you even get overloaded. I visited the Chinese guy who sells shrimps, the place smelt horrific and the product was a dark brown, sigh.

I revisited my old stomping grounds and didn’t take long to get reacquainted. What’s interesting is having spent so long in Nicaragua, I know people. In Bluefields I ran into a friend from Pearl Lagoon who hangs out with similar friends as me in Managua. I also ran into a girl from the islands who is going to school there and another acquaintance from the first trip. Is this the last time to Bluefields? Probably not but if it is, I’m alright with that. If you’re going stay at Marta Maus, it’s reasonable, clean and above all else, super secure.

Since I’ve been back I’ve been relaxing and taking care of business aka fishing. The photo above is the first kingfish I’ve ever caught aka I’m “in the game now”. This little 6 pounder felt like I had a plastic bag. I let out 280 yards of line to recoil it and I guess he hit while I was letting out. I had no fight until it saw the boat, we drove the gaff deep into its side and just like that it was done.

So I’m back to island life until mid-May when I fly to Texas to visit a friend & try my first fishing tournament, more on that later.

.

Tips hat,

P.S: Mental Note: Double plane switch.
