You'll never know unless you go

Whale Watching in Telegraph Cove, British Columbia

Greetings,

The other day Brendan and I ended up in Telegraph Cove after the Alert Bay road trip. Telegraph Cove was cool and the outfit we went whale watching with was Stubbs Island Whale Watching Adventures.

The video says it all but know this, if you’re in the area I highly recommend the experience. We saw one or two humpback whales and a pod of half a dozen Dall’s porpoise. Those porpoise are awesome creatures and you can see them in the video “doing their thing” and one even rushing under the boat.

Supposedly there are time where people see pods that are dozens or more. We didn’t see any orca but it’s no big deal as whale watching is like a safari or fishing trip, you go because it’s fun and anything else is just a bonus. The Stubbs Island staff was beyond professional and the captain was a solid character whom I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out / chatting about marine life and more with.

We stayed at the Telegraph Cove Resort, it was really quaint and captures the essence of another era.

Tips hat,

P.S: This happened a few days ago, expect a flurry of updates as all my videos got uploaded in a city I really like aka Prince Rupert.

  1. With scenery like that who needs whales?!! stunning…… I need to go!!

    • That’s what I am talking about! Seeing whales is a bonus to being out on a boat for a few hours surrounded by untouched natural beauty.

      • you got a new GoPro then?!!! good work!

        • Indeed, it’s become an indispensable tool!

  2. What a sight to see, every time I come on this site and see more of Western Canada it makes me want to go more and more! Just finished my trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto. Toronto was exactly like you said, a world class city. PLENTY of stuff to do there! I hit the Hockey Hall of Fame, a local brewery called “Steamin’ Whistle”, saw the CN Tower, had a couple of Molson Canadians with locals, and witnessed just how crazy the Canadian Football League actually IS in Toronto. If you ever do get a chance to go to Niagara Falls, make sure you see the falls from the Canadian side and ride the ‘Maid of the Mist!’ I think Montreal and Quebec are next on my Canadian bucket list, with aspirations to reach out west to Vancouver and Edmonton. For now, I have the Grand Canyon coming up which I’m looking forward to. Keep on posting Rob! Loving it!

    • Wow!

Sounds like you had an amazing trip and covered a lot of bases in Toronto. If you think the football fans are hardcore, go to a hockey game as that is Canada’s sport.

I will take your advice whenever I finally make it to Niagara Falls, kinda ridiculous that I’ve never been yet actually.

Edmonton is alright, I would definitely make Vancouver the first stop when you go west, trust me on that one.

Glad you like reading the blog as much as I do writing it!

      Safe travels, good sir.

P.S: Alexander Keith’s is another classic Canadian beer that’s worth sampling.

      • I had one! It was the Alexander Keith’s IPA. And the Reikards Red (spelling?) was good too!! What’s with all the Queen Elizabeth obsession in Canada? Why is she on the loonie, toonie and the 20$ bill?

        • It’s because we are part of the Commonwealth and Rickard’s is also good but not a fav of mine.

  3. Dude, even I’ve been to Niagra Falls. What a major Canadian fail, Rob. Guess you are making up for it with such an intense tour of BC?

Seriously didn’t think I’d enjoy watching/reading about your trip as much as I have – keep up the good work and WOW to BC for being so beautiful. I had no idea and that GoPro is really doing wonders capturing it all.

    • I’ve been all over Canada, just never made it there.

BC is stunning and I absolutely love the GoPro, it’s a game changer if one is willing to adapt their style.

      Glad you liked the video.

  4. It’s ok, I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon. Hope you are recording your entire journey on a map somewhere, will be cool to see in the end just how much ground you’ve covered. I’m just looking at one now and can’t believe how far you’ve gone already. BC is big.

    • We’re keeping track of KM and using Google Latitude, great idea for a wrap up at the end. We’ve covered so much ground and lots more is still ahead, we’re off to Haida Gwaii tonight which I’m very excited about.

  5. Great video! I’ve never been out on the ocean when it’s cold. I’m not sure how I’d manage, because I would eventually want to snorkle or free dive. Anyhow, fantastic views, I love, love, love the water!

    • Haha, you could wear a drysuit. It’s ok if you layer up, that said Brendan didn’t seem to find it cold.

      • By the looks of others in the video… I’m guessing Brendan was in the minority on this one!

        • Agreed!
