Trip to the Tailor in Hoi An, Vietnam and $5 for a 5 Course Riverside Meal

Good day or should I say good afternoon?

Took a trip to the tailors today in Hoi An, Vietnam. I had some custom made travel cargo shorts made. Here is a tip, if someone doesn’t speak English, go to another. If they have someone but they aren’t around, come back. If not, they will outsource and you will end up paying ~20% more. That’s your tip, do what you will.

This is late, if I wasn’t hopelessly addicted to Lipton Iced Tea, good times and updating this here blog, I’d be asleep. However, I clearly am not.

It took ~6 hours for the wonder Hoi An tailors to pump out prototype #1 of my “ultimate travel cargo shorts” with everything I need. If it’s all I need, I’m sure you’ll be satisfied, indeed. Prototype #1 is “ok” as they outsourced it. I had them restitch some stuff.

If I wake up at a reasonable hour, one of the ladies we went out with will make some corrections as well help me choose a cooler fabric. I just want some functional cargo pants that will replace the need for a money belt that look dope, nothing less, nothing more.

After that went for dinner with some of our soon to be Doctor friends that we met earlier in Vietnam. They were working in the hospital in Saigon and filled us in on some things. The three ladies and my friend had a 5 course meal on the river in picturesque Hoi An. I have to say, enjoying five course meals in SE Asia with wonderful company is arguably my new favorite thing, besides thinking of methods to make myself wonderfully wealthy.

It was a splendid time and the whole meal cost ~$5 each… That’s ~$5 for a 5 course meal, wt…!? Where else will you find value like that!? We had a salad, shrimp soup, some fish, ginger squid and fruit for dessert, obviously I slurped down a Lipton Lemon Iced tea in the process.

I guess I could have had a beer but frankly, they simply don’t appeal to me much anymore. I do believe I’m done the “wow I’m traveling phase.” I am going to stay here for a while(few weeks to a month) and work out some kinks with the Hoi An Tailors while living in a hotel waiting for summer to hit. It’s getting cold at night and I refuse to be cold. I just remembered what it feels like to be cold, it sucks, big time.

Oh yeah, it rained today and I was shocked. It reminded me of say spring or fall in Ottawa and I was quickly reminded why I decided to leave, indefinitely. I don’t even remember last time, oh yeah, it was in Bangkok, briefly. I almost forgot what it was like but it’s “OK” because it cooled things down. Yesterday was like 37 degrees, tomorrow probably the same.

After the meal we cruised to a bar where I drank several more Lipton Iced Teas and we enjoyed some fun and captivating conversation.

I had a whole lot to write about today but it’s 2:45am and I’m ready for bed, I didn’t get my afternoon nap today so I ‘m tired. Napping in the afternoon is a luxury one should take advantage of if circumstances allow, it’s truly grand.

Tomorrow, back to tailors for prototype #2, maybe get some custom kicks made as mine stink. Wearing shoes without socks makes your feet and the shoes stink, you already know that, I already know that, now we all can confirm it. Thanks to @Jamblo for the footwear donation, it was appreciated… Then again… It only takes 24 hours to get them done so I may just wait.

This is a somewhat uninspired update but whatever, it’s here.

I will add this, I need to start updating before dinner. After dinner, I usually stay out late as I have no commitments whatsoever and when I come home, updating this feels like a chore, which it never should.

Cordially,

P.S: This update was supposed to have photos of the prototype and my new friends but I don’t have any photos. My friend does and he’s passed out, which I’d be if I wasn’t addicted to Google Finance, Blogging and staying up “way past my bedtime”.
