Travel Blog Exchange (TBEX) 2012 Recap VLOG

Good day,

Above are some of my thoughts concerning  TBEX 2012 that was just held in Keystone, Colorado.  This is the deal, if you’re doing this full time and want to get serious about the travel blog business, it is a must. Personally, I met more people in 3 days that are interested in working with people like myself than I had in my entire time blogging since September 16th, 2009.

What else can I say?

If you didn’t visit SHABL during the weekend, here are some updates you missed about this conference.

I’m off to Ottawa tomorrow and should be able to reveal that “big announcement” I’ve  been eluding to all month…

Tips hat,

P.S: While you’re here, check out our 1000 days of travel update that I made a few day ago…

  1. Hmmm, just when I thought I had convinved myself I don’t really need to go…

Thanks for your honest opinion, this is exactly the kind of review I was hoping we’d get. I had a feeling the biggest value would be meeting industry professionals but I didn’t realize there would be so many. Hope the one in Spain will be just as good because it looks like I may just have to drop by.

    • You definitely should, I was going to but I will be in Costa Rica. I was completely shocked and you’ll have a fun time both in and out of the conference hall, I assure you.

    • Hey fellow blondie! I am probably going to TBEX in Costa Brava… and still hoping to meet up with you this summer in Sweden!

      • Oh I am probably going to just do it. It does look like it is going to be pretty awesome. So hope to see you there then! And yes, keep me posted on any Sweden plans.

  2. Hey Rob did your new hat raise any salutation …

    • The odd one, I did most of the tipping as per usual!

  3. I totally agree – it was one of the best conferences I’ve ever attended!

    • Indeed, I’m also a big fan of how affordable the registration fees are.

  4. Really wish we were able to attend. Still on the borderline of being full-time. Spain is tempting in the fall, but we are likely going to be on a different continent.

    • Now that I think of it, would the Spanish TBEX mainly cater to companies looking to work with European based bloggers? I will look into it but definitely plan on being present in the North American scene.

      Safe travels!

      • Look into it because this is exactly what I need to know (saying that in the least demanding tone imaginable). Are you wondering because a majority of the companies present at the one in Keystone looking to work with North/South American based bloggers?

        • I’m not sure “who” they were looking for but it was the American branches of the companies… As a result, TBEX Europe may work best for you if you plan on staying in Europe. That’s what I’m thinking at least.

  5. One take. Love it!

    • Thanks Courtney, glad you like the SHABL style!

  6. Plus it was a super good time!

    • Right you are Ava, it was great making your acquaintance there!

  7. Agree agree agree! Especially for a newby like myself, I had NO idea what to expect from the conference. I was actually nervous to meet all of the bloggers that I had been following for such a long time as little avatar people on twitter/facebook/etc. I had an amazing experience, made new friends and was introduced to dozens of new travel contacts. Rob, it was so nice to meet you!

    • It was also cool how 90.3235% of the people I met were not only solid bloggers or tourism professionals but cool people I’d want to hang out with even if we weren’t in the same field. Going to TBEX sure beats the trade shows I went to when I lobbied for a commodity in the forestry industry…

It was great meeting you and looking forward to following your adventures!

  8. Great post Rob! I’ll be flying across the world just to attend both TBUPorto then TBEX Costa Brava in September. With pricey airline tickets these days, some think I’m crazy just to go for a mere 2-day event but I know it will be a priceless experience. Looking forward to meeting everyone there!

    • Very cool, if you’re a full-time traveler you will spend thousands on flights over time. If you’re serious about this business, tickets to these events is some of the best money you can spend I believe.

Good luck and enjoy, sadly I won’t be at either but plan on being at the next TBEX in N. America.

  9. A shame I missed the Europe conference. I think I’ll be going next year. Would you say it’s only for full time blogger, or is it also interesting for starters, like myself?
Well, maybe next year I won’t be a starter anymore:)

    • I think it’s got something for everyone and definitely if you’re starting out. If you’re starting out, you get knowledge and contacts that could have taken you years on your own.
