Train from Paris to St Malo, France

Bonjour du la Sud de France,

Not sure if it’s de or du but who cares. So yeah, I’m at my families place and having a splendid time, indeed. The trip to St. Malo from Paris was alright, it had a stop over in Rennes. I was riding first class and it was dreadfully boring, just old geriatrics and the lady next to me was deaf, snore. It was comfortable though and the staff was pleasant on my way to one of the best cities France has to offer.

On the train, I met a business man taking a rental car to St. Malo, went with him. Even though I had already paid for the train, I was bored and we a decent rapport. Also figured if he got “crazy” he’d realize just how “loco” yours truly can be. Turns out he wasn’t nuts, just a cool guy killing time before a sales meeting that night. We drank some pints in the castle town of St. Malo and then said “good day” with the tip of a hat.

St. Malo is nice, beautiful and with lots of history. Yes it is true, history is NOT something I’m overly into, why? Mostly because I DO NOT BELIEVE a lot of it. The winner of any war always got to make the story, those overthrown did not. As a result who really knows “what went down” or whatever, yes?

Anyways, turns out St. Malo was supposedly a pirate bay for the King of France. He’d have his pirates go from there and roam the sea and bring back treasure for him. That is the kind of history i find interesting and fascinating, even if it’s partially fantasy.

Another interesting thing for us Canadians is Jacques Cartier actually left from that port, enjoy the photo below. Being in St. Malo made me realizing something, the Eurail pass is probably great. St. Malo was great, but I was also thrilled my cousin was picking me up. I would not of liked to have wasted $$$ on a nights accomodation, however had I stopped in off the train, taken pics then left it would have been cool. Therefor many places I will plan on my trip to see a lot.

I think temples are boring but castles are really sweet FYI. Part of seeing the world is well, seeing it. You can’t live everywhere for 1week – 1 month, it’s simply not possible, in a lifetime unless you are immortal. Also some places are cool for 2 weeks, 2 days and still others are cool for 2 hours. St. Malo was awesome for 3 hours. I believe the Eurail pass will enable me to see a lot.

My cousin picked me up at 7:45, we got into my Aunt & Uncles at 2am.

Today, I spent my time mulling around and hanging out with family. It’s soo good to see family again after 8.5 months of no one. Makes me miss my immediate family back home but such is life and one of the many prices people pay to do what they want in life. There is always a price people, for everything.

Here until the weekend then going to Bordeaux for some wine tasting, hanging out with my cousin. The plan is to take a train from there to Spain. So you know, the 28th is a kinda important date for this gent, as a result, I’m trying to figure out where I want to be by that date. The reason is to celebrate in a most significant style, maybe, maybe, even like it’s 1999 all over again, sans Prince, of course.

Thinking Barcelona or Ibiza or not sure. The gent from the train has been to Eastern Block and told me nothing but good things, I thought he was considerably older than I, he as only a few years. What a difference it makes when someone is in full business attire compared to cargos, high tops and a t. We are going to try and get some free wine tastings in Bordeaux, my cousin will wear a suit, I will wear cargos and t-shirt, we’ll see who gets us in… Sometimes dressing the opposite of the part makes you look more worthy, odd but true.

Found an old dictionary, I’m enamored with it. I’ve been reading it voraciously ever since. I plan on expanding my vocabulary or die trying.

Stay tuned,
