Since the last update, I went deep sea fishing and then had a night out. The night before last I slept an amazing 12 hours. I will note that when sleeping 12 hours, I feel much more sluggish than say 5-6 hours with the odd nap during the day. I passed out at 10:30, was awoken at 4am with what sounded like a herd of elephants coming through the guesthouse, it was people coming back from the beach.

Went deep sea fishing, which was cool. After that a bunch of my friends were leaving so we went out for some drinks. Koh Phi Phi is beautiful but I was getting terribly sick of the vibe though. The vibe in the core of Koh Phi Phi was similar to when I was in Panama City, Florida during Spring Break in 2003. That should explain it all for you.

After some socializing I retired to my place and when I woke up, I made the executive decision of “if it’s not 10am yet, I’m getting outta here”. Sure enough it was 9:50 or so and I quicky packed my bags and checked out. I gathered my stuff and bounced. Before I had the opportunity to leave I came back into the room and saw a cockroach crawling over my bed, at this point I was sure I made the right decision.

The gentleman working at my guesthouse is from Phuket, he told me he never wants to go back and loves Koh Phi Phi, that made my decision easy, I was off to Koh Lanta.

I went to the pier and bought a ticket, sure enough the ferry was leaving in 20 minutes, perfect. I am a believer that life is easy, and it should be easy for everyone. When you are doing what you should be doing, “things work out”. When you’re not on the path you should be “everything is a struggle”.

Koh Lanta is really nice and I’m really impressed with it. I was paying 400 baht a night (which was a good deal for double bed, fan, private bathroom, safety box during high season in the heart of Phi Phi) for the last room on Koh Phi Phi. This new place, I’m paying 500 and it’s got air con, supposedly a hot shower and the room is well, you can’t compare. This room is sweet and if they had free wifi and my visa wasn’t running out, I could live here a while. My room is typically for couples and is 800 baht a night, I told them 500 was my limit as I’m traveling alone. They agreed to the deal with almost no hessitation. Only bad thing is that wifi is 160 baht an hour ~$5.50 an hour. I like 2-3 hours a day online or more… This isn’t soo cool. If you do the math, spending 4 hours a day online will cost you ~$600 a month for internet! I was paying $60 back home.

I plan on staying here, who knows but my visa expires soon, then back to Krabi so I can hit up a Tesco Lotus and buy a whole new aresenal of white t’s and some other necessities before heading to Malaysia. My days will consist of swimming, sleeping and eating, nothing more, nothing less. If you want to relax and live well, this is the best place I’ve found so far on my travels.

This place has a totally different vibe. It’s families, cool “with it” couples, interesting people and no “I’m going to get ripped off” feel to it. Oh Phi Phi, I never left anything unattended, here I left my camera by the pool, wandered around and didn’t even once feel slightly concerned, sure enough the camera was there next to this older french couple. This place is the type of place I’m used to going and associate with ocean side fun. It’s got swimming pools, massage parlours, places to eat, a bar, everything. Think a nice classly all inclusive resort, only a fraction of the cost. This place is paradise for those willing to make the trek. I’m like 40 hours from home. This isn’t a “let’s go for a week type place” from most of Canada. That said, this is just one resort, with more time I’d love to see what the other places are like.

I’m telling you now I will come back here for an extended stay sometime, if you’ve done an extended stay here, please let me know where abouts on the island and how the wifi was, if you were into that sorta thing.

P.S I have ~120gigs of travel videos which I’ll eventually edit, upload and make write ups on. I have so much video of the places I’ve been it’s ridiculous.

Update: The more I discover about this place, the more I’m starting to think I’ve actually found paradise, renting a motorbike tomorrow.

Went deep sea fishing in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand today. It was good times and the price was right. We opted for the 1/2 day as most of the large predators feast at dusk and dawn. It was from 1:30-6:30 and cost 2500 baht for the boat. The boat was one of the longtail boats, used for fishing, water taxi etc… Our guide was great and the fishing was decent.

Let’s get serious, if you fish often, you know it’s called “fishing” not “catching” so you can’t have high expectations but should always hope for the best. To begin we just used heavily weighted lines with ~5 hooks that we’d attach some mackerel or the like. We caught plenty of snappers, clown fish and multiple other types that names elude me. It was some good fun.

After that, it began raining, no pouring. It came down like there was no tomorrow for about 30 minutes and then it was gone. It was kinda surreal being in the middle of the ocean, in this tiny boat in the middle of a rain storm.

Later in the evening (at dusk) we did some trolling, we had a barracuda on the line but I didn’t manage to get it in. I’m not sure if it was my fault(very well could of been, not the first time this has happened) or the hook was just never set properly. That said I did get a bit “excited” but it’s hard not too. The guide said it was almost in the boat and he was guessing it was ~5KG which is a decent size.

After that we had the kitchen / restaurant near the fishing guides cook up our fish. They did it for 100 baht, which was a great deal. If you’re cooking small fish, always BBQ them, the fried / steamed ones tasted horrible but I could not get enough of the BBQ ones. I have to say, it’s different picking meat off a small fish compared to the juicy steaks we got from our catch in Koh Tao.

We took about 9 fish and left the rest for the guide. Our guide was “Rob’s Sports Fishing & Tour” he does fishing and multiple other types of tours, his number is 084-0572311 or 080-1488030. He gets my stamp of approval, whatever that’s worth.

All this said, sucks we didn’t catch any lunkers, I’ve seen some of the photos and there are some mammoth fish floating around the waters of Koh Phi Phi.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. Had I pulled something big in, I’d of probaly gone the next day. Also fishing from a longtail is an experience in itself. Also, I got to see most of the island which people typically pay 1000 baht for. Sure I didn’t do any cliff jumping or play with monkey’s but I’m a fisherman so I did what floats my boat, so to speak. One cool thing was we passed some cliffs where they used to get the nests for “bird’s nest soup”. They have bamboo shoots along the sides of precarious cliffs, props to those who used to navigate those jagged cliffs, it’s truly something else.

Picture above says it all, some lady from Holland said I looked scary covered up, to which I quipped, really? Even scarier than those donned in burlap with metal spikes pertruding from their nose, mouth and ears? Really?

As a result I took down the facial part to reveal my moustache (sic). After that I figured I should get a photo so i put it back up, fwiw, I try and cover everything up. I am burnt to a crisip. FWIW with a little bit of ingenuity you can completely cover your face so not even a ray can get through with the multi-purpose “White T-Shirt”, it also doubles as a great sweat rag.

Egregious quantities of aloe vera seem to be doing the trick. I’m going deep sea fishing in 45 minutes so I need to cover up or I’ll surely die or something like that.

Today’s update is developping…

Stay tuned.

A Koh Phi Phi beach at 9 in the morning.

Wouldn’t you agree that time is the most precious commodity at your disposal? Let me explain, you can lose your shirt in the market, at the craps table or through other poor investments, then again you can also win it all back. You can waste your 20′s getting in debt and trying to “fit in”, effectively wasting time. You will never “get your 20′s back”. Time just keeps ticking, time and tide wait for no man or woman.

Before I went on this trip and made my official and extended departure from the 9-5 grind, I wasted A LOT OF TIME. I’d do the same thing everyday, over and over again and typically, not be satisfied. I guess I was clinically insane as the definition of “insanity” is doing the same thing and expecting different results, I digress.

I’m going to make an update soon called “Living Like a Local”. I’ve moved into a new stage in the trip which is the realization that I won’t live forever and this is my “new life”. This isn’t a vacation with a job, home, posessions waiting at the end for me. Granted I kept my car and have a few boxes in my parents garage, but apart from that, this is it. As a result I’ve begun to “do my own thing” more than previously. Case in point was yesterday, many people were going on a boat trip, all you can drink, cliff jumping, monkey island etc… Instead I did what I described yesterday and I’m hanging out more with local people or people who are from far away lands but actually living here. Also, if I never knew about something before I got to the island, why do I have to go see it? I mean, I don’t really care, I’m already in paradise.

You can spend 35 baht for a 1.5 bottle of water in 7/11 (I love 7/11 FYI) or you can spend 45-60 at some competition. Once you get that bottle, most drink it and discard it. A few places in town, you can fill 1 1/2 1.5L bottles for 3 baht, yes 3 baht aka 10 cents Canadian. You can get a fruit shake in one of the cafes for 80-90 baht, that’s ~ 3$. You can get the same thing, arguablly bigger for only 30 baht. If you’re around long term, chat with the other long term people and the local people. They don’t pay what tourists do, I’m not a tourist so why should I? On that note, do the math regarding percentage difference of paying 3 baht or 35 baht for a bottle of water, mind boggling.

Today, I woke up early and went for a stroll. I saw some beef sweating in a massive tupperware and it caught my attention, after that I noticed I was in front of a grocery store. It was on this alley, kinda removed from the “glitz and glamor” aka “tourist trap” main routes. I went in and wow, this is where the local people shop. If you are hessitant because of sanitary conditions, it’s where the restaurants shop too FYI. Everything in there was soooo cheap. For the longest time food was a major expense for me, not anymore. I’m kinda wasting my “Live like a Local” post that I want to do later so enough of this.

Spent the day at the beach chatting with some fine ladies and gentlemen and swimming. I’m kinda burnt (first time on trip) so enough of that for me. My mind jumps all over the map so I’ll share with you a story, and a word of caution. Late night when out partying, be careful for women with lose morals. I’ve heard horror stories that many pick pockets are actually tourists, not the locals. A guy last night felt someones hand in his pocket about 3 am, he looked around and it was this irish girl. He freaked on her and she played the victim, accusing him of accosting her. Moments later some Thai guys asked him to leave. Another “scam” is they take a drunk guy home, when he wakes up, they are gone and he is “missing” money. Not all of it, just 500-2000 baht, enough for the person to think they “lost the money”.

Something similar to pick-pocketing happened to me in University when I offered to buy this girl a drink, I dropped my $20 on the table and turned back to the party, turned around to see if the bartender had come and the $20 was gone. I was like WTH and she was walking away so I went over there and confronted her. At this point she also made a massive deal like I was harassing her. Luckily I knew the guys who ran the bar and nothing happened but yeah, that’s how it goes ladies and gentleman. On that note, I don’t enjoy using the term “hate” as it involves passion and I’m not passionate about anything negative. That said, I really hate thieves, they’re pathetic.

I’m off to go book some more deep sea fishing then hang out on the beach, in the shade. I was the only person on the beach today with their towel on top of them. I have fair skin and blue eyes and burn QUICK. So instead of lazing on the towel, I lay on the beach and had the towel covering 90% of my body. I’m here for good so I dont’ need to “work on a tan” I’ll be tanned, whether I like it or not.

Deep sea fishing here is even cheaper than Koh Tao! Also the game looks bigger and a larger variety of fish. I found a place (cheapest I’ve found) for 3500 baht for a full day or 2500 baht for a half day. We’re going half day because the full day gets long and most of the “action” is at dawn and dusk. The half day starts at 1, the full day starts at 8:30. So you know, it’s 2500 baht for the full BOAT, it can bring a max of 4 people. As a result that’s only 625 baht each or ~$20US. What a deal, what a deal.

Hope you’re doing well and if you’re not happy doing what you’re doing, it’s not going to change until you do something about it, why not now?

Good day,

Another “scam” is they take a drunk guy home, when he wakes up, they are gone and he is “missing” money. Not all of it, just 500-2000 baht, enough for the

person to think they “lost the money”.

Something similar to pick-pocketing happened to me in University when I offered to buy this girl a drink, I dropped my $20 on the table and turned back to

the party, turned around to see if the bartender had come and the $20 was gone. I was like WTH and she was walking away so I went over there and confronted

her. At this point she also made a massive deal like I was harassing her. Luckily I knew the guys who ran the bar and nothing happened but yeah, that’s how

it goes ladies and gentleman. On that note, I don’t enjoy using the term “hate” as it involves passion and I’m not passionate about anything negative. That

said, I really hate thieves, they’re pathetic.

I’m off to go book some more deep sea fishing then hang out on the beach, in the shade. I was the only person on the beach today with their towel on top of

them. I have fair skin and blue eyes and burn QUICK. So instead of lazing on the towel, I lay on the beach and had the towel covering 90% of my body. I’m

here for good so I dont’ need to “work on a tan” I’ll be tanned, whether I like it or not.

Deep sea fishing here is even cheaper than Koh Tao! Also the game looks bigger and a larger variety of fish. I found a place (cheapest I’ve found) for 3500

baht for a full day or 2500 baht for a half day. We’re going half day because the full day gets long and most of the “action” is at dawn and dusk. The half

day starts at 1, the full day starts at 8:30. So you know, it’s 2500 baht for the full BOAT, it can bring a max of 4 people. As a result that’s only 625 baht

each or ~$20US. What a deal, what a deal.

Hope you’re doing well and if you’re not happy doing what you’re doing, it’s not going to change until you do something about it, why not now?

Good day,

I sit here, massaging my most magnificent moustache(sic), pondering the potential of the next prolific party, debating my next diabolically delicious dinner and staring at the fan on the ceiling with a grin on my face.

Last night, after a dinner that could of be in the dictionary next to the word divine, we went to “Reggae Bar”. Reggae bar is our new hangout, to start the night, for most obvious reasons. Another fine and distinguished gentleman wearing evening attire and sporting a most marvelous moustache remarked “Would you like a bucket?”, to which I quickly quipped “I’m about as interested in a bucket as I am starting my MBA”. Moments later, I said “good evening” before returning to retire to my room. This gentleman is having the time of his life, but he is also starting to feel slightly, how do you say, “tired”?

My head crashed into the pillow when I got home and within moments I was deep deep into dreamland. That’s when the nightmare began. I dreamt that I was home, back in Ottawa and GASP, working. I was getting out of my finely crafted german automobile on a ground covered like a carpet in disgustingly white snow. I love white, white beaches, white t-shirts, white teeth and of course white kicks, I digress.

The dream was that I was home, it was one of those dreams where you become slightly concious of what’s happening. A dream where you aren’t sure if it’s real. Nightmares never go away, they just change with the concerns and musings of the mind making them like a magician at the MGM Grand.

I woke up, in a sweat and a gasp. As quickly as I awoke, I realized it was just a dream, just a horrible horrible trick my mind was playing on me. No later than the moment my head mashed into the pillow, I was out again.

A group was going on a boat trip to see “The Beach” and other things like that, I simply wasn’t feeling it and as a result, did my own thing. I was going to look for a cheaper room, last time I did that I almost got bed bugs, I’m off that. This room has everything I want including super chill people working and being the distinguished gentleman that I am who is entitled to more than the average, I am staying at the start of high season at a 20% discount. Today, someone was looking for a room and I sold her on it, at a 20% surplus of course.

I am a man who cares not about price, I don’t see price. I only see percentages, my mind calculates faster than you can pull out the calculator on your mobile. When I see a price for ANYTHING I immediately being comparing it to there possible subsitutes. If you don’t mind your small purchases, how will you ever assume the position to mind big decisions? Life isn’t about price, it’s about percentages and principle. Whether someone over charges you on a $1 coffee or a $1,000,000 home, it’s the principle and percentage difference to a comparable subsitute that matters. If you don’t get the principle, enjoy paying a higher price.

Wow, this update has taken on a life of it’s own and I haven’t even TOUCHED upon the topic I was going to. Earlier I wrote about “Enjoying the Day“, that is precisely what I did. From the moment I woke up and saw the market melt up, burning off the moustaches of the grizzly bears betting against the economy. On that note, next gold pullback, I will buy more. The US dollar is going to h3ll in a handbasket and I do business in US$, as a result I own enough gold related equities to sufficiently “hedge” my bleeding US position. Back to today. Then again, gold could be getting kinda toppy, therefor I may just let my previous investments climb, like a stairway to heaven. Actually, I don’t know what I’ll do and I’m not a broker so do your own due diligence.

Today, I checked out the view point as sweat streamed from every pore on my body as though I was taking a shower. It was a cleansing, invigorating and simply heavenly. Most go to one or two viewpoints, in typical “you’ll never know unless you go” fashion, I checked them all. Being alone, I didn’t have to slow down and walk for someone else, I went at my pace and sprinted up the hill until I ran out of breath, regained and ran some more. Another time I will tell you about the day I cracked my knee caps, not today. At the top of the mountain, I relaxed while flicking the ash from my cigarette, not a care in the world, staring into one of the most beautiful scenes my eyes have ever had the pleasure of viewing.

Upon returning I ran into this couple from Denmark who were going snorkeling, I dropped my camera off at home and joined them. I cruised through turquoise water while the sun tanned and burned every inch of my uncovered body. I saw schools of fish swim and hide, I saw an eel come from the depths and many other things you’d have to see and experience to appreciate so I won’t bother.

After that, I cruised through the village without a care in the world, I finally ended up at this other “reggae bar” as they blared reggae and chatted with a German traveling for 2 years. He’s not looking forward to going home. He said he’s a completely different man now then the one he was when he left. With him was one of the most beautiful women I’ve seen in my life, from Australia no doubt. She was playing with a kitten and wearing it as a hat. Think Elle MacPherson in her early twenties but having a conversation with you.

After that, I returned my gear and took a shower before promptly passing out on my bed. I just slept like time meant nothing, because it doesn’t. TIME ONLY MEANS SOMETHING when you are under the control of something. If I need a ferry, that ferry controls my actions around the time I need to catch it. The majority of you think you’re free but your so controlled it would make your head spin. A typical “Employment” is the largest control they have out there. Bureaucracy loves control, without control you have chaos and chaos leads to anarchy.

I am truly starting to understand the meaning and term “it’s a dog’s life”. Dogs have no concept of time because they don’t need it. I am beginning to have no time concept, because I don’t need it. I sleep when I want, I eat when I want, I get thai massages when I want because I can. The irony is that with a bit of reprogramming and a bit of planning, YOU TOO can do what you want. Life is an obstacle course the length of a marathon filled with murder holes. The uninitiated fall into them from the get go and claw, climb, curse and cringe as they attempt to escape with no luck. These murderholes were crafted, carefully by men more clever than you to trap you and control you.

Ok this is getting much too verbose and I’m in the mood to expand my palate, good day to you.

P.S Had other images but they are taking forever or getting errors and I have better things to do.

Last night was ridonkulous (sic). Whenever I hit up a new town, village, city or island, I always go out, full. Even if I say “I’m going to bed”, it never happens. I’m simply “not that kinda guy”. Also, first night out, you meet all the other fun people and then your days become filled with new friends, acquaintances and even occasionally, the odd enemey. (just kidding).

Before going to “Reggae Bar” to watch some Muay Thai fights, we saw a street fight. We were alternating between sipping slowly and blasting through buckets in record time while smoking our chosen brand of smokes. In an instant we see this Lady Boy aka Shemale aka Tranny tweaking out on people in an internet cafe. We remarked that he / she looked disturbed and then resorted back to our regular routine.

Moments later this English bloke begins yelling at the tranny, moments later they are fighting. Punching each other in the face, spitting in each others faces, throwing each other to the ground and throwing chairs and stools through this once quiet internet cafe.

At this point, I began filming (well I began filming earlier) but my friends started filming. I’ve become increasingly brazen with my camera but I urged them “dudes, put that shiz down, do not get caught filming this”. About 3 min into the fight the english guy with a mouth full of blood and tranny spit sees my friend filming… “Uh oh” he runs over and kicks my friend in the chest, hard. After that the tranny comes over and begins slapping my friend in the face with her soiled flip flops. Madness ensues.

Shortly after this, a guy that is much smaller but even more mental than the lady boy fighting english bloke released some “fists of fury” into the guys face. The English guy falls back on to a bunch of signs and well after that, who cares. It was pretty nuts, I had a front row seat and I have it on film. I quit filming when my friend got a “boot stomp to the chest”. I digress…

After that we went to the Reggae bar and watched foreigners beat each other into submission, following that these 2 crazy thai guys went at it. Not sure if it’s “fixed or not” but they were truly “going at it” with great vigor and zeal, as I like to say.

When one of the westerners was done, earlier, I was standing next to him filming another fight when he puked all over my leg, the guy was a heavy weight and I made like I didn’t feel it. Truth be told, it was pretty gross having some oversized rugby props puke dripping down the side of my leg.

The night ended with an all too regular “beach party” aka “beach rave”. At about 4:18 I retired for the evening with a smile on my face. Good times.

On another note, I am thinking of doing my “Diving Pro” course. I met these dudes and we got along, the guy runs a dive shop, it’s 60,000 baht to get certified with minimum # of dives to be a dive master. He said if I wanted to help out in the shop a day or so a week, he’d let me dive with the groups that pay so effectively, I’d have ~100 dives in 3 months and really “know what I’m doing”. I’d also live in the dive community at discounted rates and just become a “Koh Phi Phi local”, worse things in life, yes?

I’m undecided but could be cool. If you’re a dive master and like somewhere, you can just show up, chill out, dive, meet ladies from Nordic countries and the like, not a bad gig, especially when you don’t have to work, you just do it for fun.

On that note, those of you that wish to do something like this, learn a “PORTABLE OCCUPATION”, something you can do anywhere, anytime. Some occupations include but are not limited to: chef, cook, waiter, bartender, dive master and countless others that currently elude me. If you’re interested, do your own homework.

I have lots more to talk about but I’ll save them for another day, if I ever remember them again.

I just wasted an hour uploading a 2 minute video of one of the fights, an error occurred and I’m off to the beach. This place is truly beautiful and I’m not just talking about the scenery.

P.S I am soooo sick of “Tonight is going to be a good night” song and if I hear “Shorty Burning on the Dance floor” one more time, I may very well burn the dance floor down, and the entire club pumping that horrible tune. Ok, not really but I really hate that song.

Eat here last night, cheaper than Wendy’s, awesome sea food.

Ok, I got like no sleep last night. I stayed back to “rest up” but instead I fed my internet addiction like a glutton at Christmas dinner. Every family has that “glutton” the dude or lady but usually a dude who eats like 3 full Xmas meals then finds themselves rolling on the ground in distress, I digress.

Went to bed at 4am in this fine place called Krabi town. At 10am my phone rang, it was a friend from Bangkok saying “Man, I should of stayed in Krabi longer, I’m bored a shiz”.

Moments later, I’m awake, for good. I check my facebook and my crew is like “Are you coming?” to which I quipped “Yes”.

I had already passed my check out but I went down and said “Hey, if I buy a ticket from you to Koh Phi Phi, we can ignore the late charge”, “most certainly” they replied.

I frantically ran to my room and began packing, wow this room was dirty for only housing the likes of myself for 2 days, beer bottles, bags of chips, ham and cheese sandwich wrappers, cigarette packs, water bottles and other things that elude my memory.

I packed, checked for all my “expensive things” and looked for the key. WHERE IS THE KEY!? At this point the ferry is leaving soon and I’m going OCD looking for all my thing and now I can’t find the key.

Finally I say it has to be in the garbage, so I’m going through disgusting garbage, can’t find it. Look around and say “it’s gotta be in the garbage”.

I rummage through this massive bag of trash and in the bottom of a dirty and disgustingly delicous bag of chips, voila, my key. How did it get there!?!?

Now I’m eating an omelet, ode to the omelet, I love omelets. Onion, bacon, tomato and cheese thank you very much.

Yeah, off to Koh Phi Phi, heard the place is sick from everyone and who would I be NOT to go visit paradise when it’s only a ~1-3 hour ferry away?

I was staying at P. Guest House in Krabi, write that down, P GUEST HOUSE in Krabi. VERY cool people, very clean room and very inexpensive.

I could of stayed longer but I looked at the calender and I’m running out of time. Furthermore I have great friends ON the other side of the world (here) that are like “Yo, you coming?” I know I most likely won’t be this lucky the entire trip. Truth be told, as an overly extroverted specimen on this planet, I much prefer chilling with people than alone.

I like being alone, for a tiny bit but then straight back to the party.

I wish my feet weren’t covered in blisters, my vintage Nike’s are starting to smell something fierce from wearing them 24/7. Flip flops are the alternative but they butchered my feet. Oh well life’s alright when that’s your biggest concern.

God speed,

P.S: Supposedly they filmed the movie “The Beach” on Koh Phi Phi, never seen the movie so wouldn’t know but that’s what I’ve been hearing.

Krabi Town, Thailand

For the last ~8 weeks, I’ve just been going full and constantly chilling with new people and going on new adventures. It’s been great and I’m thankful for it, however, this energizer bunny or “Robo Cop” if you will, needs to recharge his batteries. As a result, I am spending a few days just chilling in Krabi Town, Thailand.

I’ve done nothing today, I mean nothing, even making this update has seemed like a “chore” and my mind is mush. I’d leave to Koh Phi Phi tomorrow, but today I was much too lazy to get my laundry done. Typically I don’t like associating my clothes with those of others. Why you ask? They don’t use hot water and if you were a dirty skid with bugs, fleas or some other dirt related annoyance, wouldn’t you get ALL your clothes washed? I’d rather just buy new clothes, I found white t-shirts in 7/11 for 67baht, ha.

When you travel with a group of “new friends” you don’t realize how much fun it was until you’re not longer with the group. If I wasn’t in dire need of a few days of “just relaxing, doing nothing styles” I’d be with them on Koh Phi Phi, probably laughing with a drink in my hand as we speak. Hopefully I’ll be able to see them again, as many of them are “traveling for a while” as well.

I’ve spent the day becoming one with a bed, watching BBC news, playing on the internet and smoking over-sized hand-rolled cigarettes, from my balcony on the top floor. Life is good, dare I say life is grand right now. I have free wifi, hot shower, private bathroom, cable TV and a top floor room with a balcony for 300 baht or ~$9 a day. Not as nice a view as my last place but wifi in my room is priceless.

It’s crazy how when I went on this trip, I wanted no return ticket, EVER, because if I had one, I’d feel guilty for doing nothing. When I went on this trip, I had no “must go do’s” to be honest, I pictured myself doing what I’m doing now, “nothing”. Nothing, with no time-lines, no commitments, no responsibilities, nothing.

I really like the fact that the only “appointment” I have is to be “out of Thailand” by the 19th of November, apart from that, I’m a free agent. It’s like being on summer vacation when you’re a kid, only school doesn’t start again and you’re an adult, so you can do what you want.

It’s funny how you can have all these great trains of thought all day but then when you come down to write something, suddenly there are no trains at the station.

P.S It’s “Movember” aka “Moustache (sic) November. There has never been a better time to rock a sick moustache with pride.

P.P.S: I *think* I can hear a bar nearby, one where awkward westerners donned in burlap or “playing the fool” dressing in traditional “Thai gear” from the 15th century go to sing along to their favorite metro-sexual singer like John Mayor, Simple Plan, Ricky Martin or my favorite “John Cougar Mellon-Camp”. Disgusting.

Next Stop – Koh Phi Phi, at least for now
