Stop Having a Boring Thailand
I sit here on my bed in front of a television that isn’t even plugged in trading stocks while procrastinating a shower. I have a headache and need water but am much too lazy to walk 10 feet to get my water. Hanging out in Bangkok, Thailand is starting to feel like hanging out with an ex gf. It’s familiar territory but not really intriguing, in fact it’s kind whack in a “wtf am I doing with my life” type way.
I have to stop having a boring Thailand. I’ve been in Asia for ~4 months and 2+ have been in Thailand. If I am going to lounge here, it should be in Kanchanaburi, golfing with those English blokes. Either way, Cambodia has very little appeal to me. I’m sure I’ll find it cool, just not particularly motivated to go.
Want to know what gives me sweet dreams? A small crib, on a small lot, on a golf course in a developing country. A short ~5-10 minute golf cart ride to the ocean and great wifi. This magical place will also have cheap steaks, drinks and endless sea food. I will buy a ~5-10 year old SUV and tint the windows solid black. To top it off, access to a facility with a nice pool and tennis courts for dawn and dusk. The facilities would preferably be attached to a hotel where I can meet randoms and can run a tab while eating breakfast after hole 9 and a bar where I can enjoy the 19th hole.
Vietnam, those guys are going to make me pre-arrange a visa!? Really? If I have to break my routine of showing up with a stained smile and a fist full of fiat currency, it has to be somewhere really cool. Unlike most travelers who have planned their trips to death, I bought a bag the day before I left, I packed once and only once, the night before I left.
Anyways, if I’m going to Cambodia, I know some people going Sunday morning. That would involve yours truly getting up at a timely hour, checking out and meeting a slew of random people I’ve made arrangements with. Then go to Khao San so I can catch the ungodly early bus of 7am, 7am, are they mad? I’d rather go to bed at 7am then wake up at 6am, seriously.
Hung out with some cool people again today. Apart from that have done nothing, oh I went to all you can eat ribs for $12US. It was Flintstones portions people. I eat 2 racks and just about ralphed, it’s every Friday at Larry’s Dive haha it’s an old diving school.
Digesting, if you will.

I love reading about your adventures, don’t get me wrong. But these life reflections posts are the ones that really make my day.
Cambodia is very cool but whatever you do don’t take the bus from Khao San there. It’s a well known scam that even the guidebooks warn you about.
You can take a train for 50 cents from Bangkok to the border. You then take a tuk tuk (no more than a dollar) to the Cambodian border and can get a visa for $20, unfortunately if you talk to anyone along the way you somehow have to pay US$30-40 so keep your head down and don’t talk to anyone.
After you cross the border you can get a taxi wherever you need to go for less than the price of the bus.
where are you! I am trying to skype…
J – Noted.
Ayngelina – Really? Ok, $0.50 for the train or $50 bucks? Also can’t you take a bus / train to a small city before the border then catch the bus over the border? When did you do the trip? Heard it’s all cleared now and whatnot? Fill this brotha in!
Jill – Sleeping!! Like you are now probably, ha.
