Jungle Spirit Party Halloween in Pai

Greetings and salutations fine denizens of this here internet,

I’d have updated yesterday but frankly, had much better things to do.

We were out late on Saturday and while sifting through town on Sunday, some gents told us of this “Tribal Jungle Party” about 2km outside of town. Immediately it was something that had to be done. At about 10pm we went to the spot for a taxi and waited, nothing. A while later went on walk, ran into these other party people waiting. Next thing you know you’re in a random car “taxi” with 9 people booming through the jungle to some mountain rave in the golden triangle.

Once arriving it’s pitch dark, no lights nothing. Just a small head light from one of the party guys. You walk further and up these path ways until you realize you’re at a resort or some gents place in the middle of the jungle on the side of a hill. The area was cleared and it was set up for a party. A few bars, big dj booth, dance floor and a massive fire to chill out at. One of those Halloween parties with lots of looking around being like “WTF is going on here!?”

At about 3am my friend asked how one would get home from here. Considering the taxi driver was now in full dance mode and it was so dark you couldn’t see your hands once you left the party… It was an all night thing where you walk home at 7 or 8am. He gave me one of those looks of “makes sense”. There were about 60-80 people from all walks of life, ages and countries. About 50% local people and 50% foreigners. Around 3-4am it started to tapper off then got insanely interesting about 6am.

The music was alright but the venue was out of this world, a great way to pass Halloween.  Memorable part was as the sun was rising and the surroundings were starting to come into focus.  Would be a peaceful place to stay for a week if one “wanted to get away”. It does get cold at night though, talking cold as though you will wish you had long pants, perhaps a jacket.

The music stopped and as we were leaving said goodbye to these French ladies we had met. Told them we were walking out and they joined us. Then this other not so sure about him type joined us. We walked about half way when a rasta dude offered us a ride, the strange guy got in the rasta guy got out. It was a sweet “switch up” for us but he said he was just being polite and annoyed the guy took the ride as he had no shoes.

Woke up and went for a harmless breakfast. Met the French ladies randomly then as they were leaving this Australian lady from the party showed up along with some other gents later. Hit up a few bars with big couches and pool tables and just relaxed. In the peak of high season most bars are filled supposedly but are rather empty now.

Pai gets a “you should check out” recommendation with lots to see and do. If you’re doing northern Thailand and you make it Chiang Mai, you have to take the 3 hour bus here, even if just for a day or so. Great place to drive a moto and see how the people around here live. Very friendly bunch, I might add.

If traveling is something you want to do, make it happen. It’s worth every penny and every second of the journey. Also don’t plan much or fantasize about far away places. Just go. Whoever you are will dictate the trip you take. On the topic of travel, there is a  reason why Thailand is so popular.

Tips hat,

P.S These photos were taken on the way out of the party with a camera not worth the space in one’s pocket.
