Happy Times in Hoi An

Good day,

It’s Saturday, you have a life, you’re living it, awesome and make sure you enjoy it.

It’s happy times in this Hoi An hotel, glad to be out of the hospital. I’m “back to my old tricks” of eating at street vendors, drinking sugar cane and codeine while loving life. Read the medical report, the Doctor recommended “lot’s of rest” and surgery is not recommended. Maybe in a few months if my forehead has a dent, I’ll get some cosmetic surgery, I never thought I’d write that. Also no hemorrhaging blah blah, basically “as good as you can get for a really sh!tty situation”.

Dare I say, I feel like I have a “new lease on life”.

Lots is happening here and I returned my bike. The bike was in perfect shape except I lost the lock and the basket was slightly broken. I love it when you ask other locals how much things should cost and then the guy in the deal plays it out to be this massive thing. I thought this guy was going to cry / kill me so I had to get “blunt” with him and let him know “Dude, I’m getting your bike, I paid for a month, I don’t care about getting any $$$ back, chill the #@#$ out.”

Anyways after he had a near aneurysm I gave him an extra $2 to fix the basket and stuff just to make this whole situation go away. Flip side is, was hanging with one of my buddies today and he was like “today sucked”. I quipped “whatever do you mean” and he showed me that he only made 23,000vdn today. That’s ~$1.20US for a 10 hour day and he has a family, rent, food etc… That’s why buddy was freaking over the bike I think.

chicks to be raised to chicken for dinner

So anyways, when you sit back and drink your $7 imported beer on some patio today and think to yourself “wow, I wish I had more …” just realize how lucky you are, especially if you’re checking the internet from your home. Most of the people here NEVER buy chicken. If they want chicken, they buy 5 chicks and wait a few months until they are large enough to harvest. Also, they have to kill it, pluck it … Need I continue?

Go have some fun coz you “never know when you’re gonna go”.
