Full Day of Travel & Finally Home at Hampton in Dallas
Hello friends,
I’m home, home sweet home for the next two days at Hampton outside Dallas! Just finished a super long travel day and I’m pretty zoned aka excited but exhausted. Was really happy to check in, turn up the heat, get online and now all I can think of is taking a shower so hot I’ll burn myself in the third degree before sleeping it off. Seriously now, I’m not sure what’s more exciting; this blazing internet or a hot shower waiting? Trust me that when they are not available and you love them, they will be missed.
It’s been a while since I did a trip this long aka 20+ hours, it’s weird but I really don’t mind traveling at all. You’ll meet interesting people like I did today and some of them you’ll probably wish you never even met like this lady who was freaking out in Managua. I’ve never seen someone have a mental breakdown at an airport, it’s not a pretty sight – trust me. Apart from that it was rather routine travel day and a friend came to meet me in Managua, have a coffee and help me kill some time.
So the trip from Little to Big Corn was quite enjoyable. The new ferry service was nice but it arrives really early and you wait around forever. If you take the yacht you’re making your flight, probably the same with the panga but not a definite. Next it was off to Managua, I really don’t care for that city. It’s also weird being around cars again, after a month or so on a small island with no roads, let alone cars; you tend to forget about them and see why dogs have such a tough time paying in traffic.
Long wait in Managua and this whole trip took a while because I had to make the early flight from Big Corn. Next up it was Miami and why doesn’t that place have free wifi? On the topic, how come DFW doesn’t either? Seriously, when the expenses of an airport are that high, why not throw in some wifi? The flight to Miami from Managua was pretty routine and the hardest part was customs, what else is new? Next it was a quick flight to Dallas which was filled with spring breakers, the flight went by fast.
Got into Dallas and grabbed my rental after a long pleasant chat with the shuttle driver about life. Ever enjoy random deep talks with strangers you know you’ll never see again? Also great people to ask random advice from because hey, why would they lie? Anyways, hit the streets and sure enough, my exit was closed. I saw a gentleman pulled over on the road so I pulled up, desperate styles. Turns out he was super helpful and going the same way, never would have found it.
Right now I’m really filled with my second wind of energy which isn’t good as we’re starting to push 2am aka lights out. I’m sitting here looking at the bed as though I were a strange looking creature in Lord of the Rings and silently hissing “my precious” in my thoughts. On that note, I’ll leave you and get some much needed sleep. I’m not in Dallas for long so time to make the most of it.
Muchos gracias to Hampton for putting this trip together, real nice change from the island lifestyle!
Tips hat,
P.S: Ever stress about something then realize you were wrong? It’s not worth it.

Rob, love this post!
I’ve also always wondered why airports don’t offer free wifi. Airports in general give us the first and last impression of a country so why are they always so boring, expensive or complicated?
I’m with you but I think they figure most have data on phone and those that need not WILL pay.
Sadly, I’ve bought wifi at many airports, I need it! That said, find it more annoying with hotels and won’t book one that makes me pay.
