Exploring & Hiking Butze Rapids in Prince Rupert, BC
Greetings,
Had the pleasure of spending some time in Prince Rupert recently and from the previous posts, you know I’m a fan. This video blog is about seeing some sights, learning a little bit of history and hiking the Butze Rapids Trail.
The hike only takes about an hour or so and could be classified as relaxed. I will note that if you have a tiny dog, you may want to keep it on the leash or leave it at home as there are timber wolves in the area, yes timber wolves aka it’s really not your backyard anymore, at all.

Tips hat,

Who knew totem poles were going to be such a recurring theme during your adventures. Almost like I predicted it just by looking at one awesome photo sideways. Looks like I am a blonde gypsy in more ways than one.
During/throughout. P.S. Do you call them Native Americans or Native Canadians?
The official term is First Nations.
Indeed and this area is very rich with history that dates back thousands of years before gents in white wigs started a place called “Canada”.
I swear Rob, some of these pictures make me think that the color green has been officially ‘underplayed’ in my part of the world!
It’s the beauty of a rain forest, if you like green you’ll love the Haida Gwaii updates I have coming.
I will be awaiting them eagerly!
Another great video! I think my favorite part was the trail and all the foliage!
Thanks, just started making videos like this a week or so ago. It’s a work in progress but so far, so good!
looks like a gorgeous place – i need to get up there! i chuckled when you mentioned the ‘lettuce-like plants’ though. those are skunk cabbage (or swamp lanterns) – somebody probably already told you that – and first thing in the spring they have bright yellow lantern like flowers that the bears love to eat. gets their, uh, digestion moving after a winter’s hibernation.
Yeah, I had already found out shortly after I shot it and I can definitely see the bears loving it. They basically just eat and sleep from what I’ve gathered.
I am pretty sure I am going to have to add Prince Rupert to my bucket list!
Definitely, I had a great time up there and be sure to hit up Breaker’s for a drink / eagle sighting at sunset.
