I've lived most of my life free from debt and I think the real driver of the cancerous system you are referring to is the fact that we are constantly imprinted with false desires. Or even worse, our true desires are being perverted into something that will make money for someone else. I've had very little money and I've had a lot of money, little time and lots of time, but I never found it easy to escape advertisements. The rare times that I succeeded, it was well-worth the effort. I became a much happier and maybe nicer person. I think advertisement is the real killer.
