Back on Track After Travel Burnout & Living in Singapore

travelrave_leaders_gala

Greetings from downtown Singapore…

Ever heard of travel burnout or had it? It’s horrific I dare say and I’m slowly getting back on the road after my engine was smoking all sorts of crazy. I even had to get towed to a mechanic to make sense of the mangled mess. Think of your body as a car and now throw it in the red for way too long, it’s a good time and oh you’re moving fast but if you don’t shift gears in time, you blow the engine, burnout and have to spend some time kicking your tires while the smoke spreads from under the hood, yes?

Apart from that I attended ITB Asia and I *think* it was a success. We’ll never know until everything plays out but it was most certainly eye opening and I’ve left wiser and more informed on the industry than before so we’ll leave it at that. I also attended a TravelRave’s “Leaders Gala” hosted by Singapore Tourism which was quite the affair, indeed.  Other than that, I’ve been living here in Singapore. As fate would have it, a friend of a friend is renting an apartment out in the beginning of November and it has been sitting vacant a few months…

As a result, I’ve been lucky enough to inhabit this stellar pad in the heart of downtown for a rare glimpse of “what life is like here”. Life is grand here and everything is quite easy the only problem is the tremendous price tag. I do know that real estate here is some of the most expensive on the planet but it makes sense in a city state that is only 42km x 24km, yes?  A friend manages some property in Little India and it costs $1500 a month on a one  year lease for a tiny studio, can only imagine what this place must be. To say I’m grateful to have been able to sample this slice of life is an understatement.

If you don’t earn money by working in an expensive spot it doesn’t make cents (sic) to live there…

Looks like I’ll be here hanging out in Singapore a little while longer and cool with that. They have these outdoor gyms everywhere which are ingenious and I think North America should install some but believe they are scared of getting sued, sigh. In other news, I had my first guasha massage the other day and it looked like someone thoroughly abused my back. They scrape off the dead skin to let the heat out. Supposedly being “heaty” leads to disease.  Who knows but it was an experience, haha.

Stay tuned for two more updates from Mauritius before back to our regular programming here.

Finally, if you’re traveling and deep in the red, slow down and let your car cool down! When you are used to going 180 on the highway and suddenly you’re left on some desert road watching your radiator steam while waiting for a tow to the mechanics miles away you’ll be wishing you just took it a little slower, yes? My engine was overheating when I got to Edinburgh and the trip to Singapore blew a gasket.

Tips hat,
