As Fate Would Have it, Flight to Greece

Greetings,

I write this from my quasi distinguished accommodations in Athens, Greece.

Based on circumstances, I reckon “As Fate Would Have it” is most apropos.

First off, as always, a comedy of errors. Ever been ready to get into a cab to the airport when your zipper gets caught on your boxers and you opt for the force approach? Only to rip the zipper from your travel pants off completely!? It happens, it sucks.

Arrive at the airport and the lady behind me and I begin chatting, naturally. Turns out she’s from Canada and going to Athens. She has a room booked and we agree to go together. Then, also turns out her seat is next to mine.

I always book cheap tickets that aren’t cheap enough. This one had me right next to the bathroom, not recommended. I shall spare you the details. As always, Air Egypt delivers. I love airplane food and had both of their selections, chicken is always the safe bet.

When we arrived in Egypt, I decided I’d just stay there as the wait seemed boring. Regrettably, my baggage was checked through so I had little choice. It feels great to be back in Europe and in some odd way, on the way home.

This trip will be 20 months from my home town on the 16th.

Upon arriving at the hostel / hotel / whatever you want to call it, I am informed they are booked full, solid. While they are saying that a South African photographer who is here with an agency to film potential protests says he has a private room and an open bed if willing to split the rent.

Another random that works out.

The moral of this brief yet to the point story is that the world has a weird way of working out if you let it. Europe is intoxicating and consider myself lucky to be back on this wonderful continent.

Tomorrow or the day after, off to the islands. The plan is to make my way to Turkey via the islands then into Bulgaria, as always, time will tell. Why talk about the future as who knows what will happen?

Already see small lanes lined with restaurants and people enjoying fine meals and drink. Reminds me of Asia only it’s delicious looking Greek food. Sadly, it’s Sunday and most places are closed so not much to do, considering the flight took 18 hours door to door, that’s probably not a bad thing.

Looking forward to the islands.

Tips hat,

P.S: Looks like Santorini is in the cards. It costs ~30E or so and it leaves at 11:30PM or 7:30 AM. Without a doubt a night ferry is in the cards. Supposedly for 25E a night you can get a double room with pool and everything you need in this world. Hmmmmm and oh ya, the photo is of Santorini.
